Don’t get me wrong, he’s still my favorite rapper ever, but ever since 4:44 he’s on the spoken word flow.
Meek feat on What’s Free - Spoken word
On the JayElec album it was the same
On the Drake feat from CLB, the same.
I miss when Jay would flow with the beat instead of talking over it
Idk if it makes sense but the spoken word flow kinda fits where he is in life
Like, it gives the vibe that he can just talk his s*** regardless of the melody and it’ll hit
I was waiting for someone to say this.
HOV is genius.
This is adult contemporary bars. Its ahead of its time cuz nobody relevant for that long and that age can spit ill.
I can’t lie I miss the staccato/assault rifle bars but the single fire bars that are off timing at points is refreshing, his voice is his instrument and he got a smooth swing to it. Whats a metronome/click track?
That’s real poetry, the way he’s splitting up the bars is disgusting because he doesnt it so effortlessly.
“I wouldn’t listen to Reason, Ether”

Facts
Hov like every great artist develops their craft over time and switches it up because we ain't the same folks as we were ten years ago.. Hov is the same. For me if you want type of Hov to listen to BP1 & TBA are available on all major streaming services to bang.
I got HOV verse on repeat so I can digest the beauty in this poetry. Def Poetry Jam worthy
I thought he was flowing on AWT well
I agree, I hated 4:44 for this very reason. He was off beat during his live show during that era as well.
“He’s a genius”
“It’s spoken word.”
These are all excuses for getting old and not being able to keep up with the beat anymore
