Playlists killed the listening experience in that aspect.
Facts also people don't stay out of stores and buy 🎶 so I totally understand.
Streaming has turned music, movies and shows into fast food s***, regardless of the quality
I mean haven’t it always been this way with music? When album first drop the first few spins are full and then as time goes on you just listen to your favorite songs for the most part.
Nah it hasn’t actually
Pre streaming/mp3 era the only way you was able to conveniently listen to your favorite songs from different albums was to record them on cassette and make your own make shift mixtape
Most people ain’t have time for all that and most people ain’t want to switch between multiple cds to bounce around between their favorite songs
Casuals would literally buy an entire album and listen to it from top to bottom. That’s why having too many skips was frowned upon and having no skips was such a big deal. People really lived with albums back in the day
Attention span + a lot of artists chasing radio hits and not actually making cohesive projects
They never have
Y'all thought people bought a CD and listened to the whole album all the time?
They played the s*** they liked and cut it off or switched to the radio

How old are you
you think music started with CDs?
I guess we'll go back to the vinyl and just say people just let it play aka background music aka playlist music so now we're back at square one?
I think people view albums differently
Some(most) just see them as a collection of songs from an artist
Others see it as a bigger deal. An expression of what an artist is about in a full work
When you have popular artists dropping 20+ songs a project, you pick and choose your favorites from the album and save them in a playlist
Although ppl been doing this since mixtapes were uploaded online
It depends on the artist. Some are more album based and some are more single based.
Like one will basically be a singles compilation
with a deep cut or 2 and one will be a full body of work.

💯 they need to cut down how many songs on an album. Maybe 10-14 songs max.
How are are old Mr. Dusty?
Old enough to know you are talking out of your ass
The average person used to really listen to most of if not the entire album that they spent their hard earned money on either that or they listened to the radio, one of the two

So they ran the album every time they went to listen to it?
No

so now just letting it play = "playlist" music? thats how i listen to my full albums a lot of the time so i guess im listening to playlist music too
people still listened to radio a lot, moved the needle to skip songs sometimes but its not true to act like there was never a time where casual music fans listened to albums in full. i promise you people were listening to albums like Dark Side of the Moon, Thriller, beatles albums in full all the time
greatest hits albums were also very common tho for the casual listeners which are pretty much like playlists
So they ran the album every time they went to listen to it?
No
yeah cuz its a lot more inconvenient to skip songs while the record is playing. have to get up, stop it, move the needle to aim it on the next song, etc. no skip button like a CD
So they ran the album every time they went to listen to it?
No
Back in the days musicians actually had fans who waited out of stores to buy their 🎶. Buying full albums and actually listening to the whole album.
So they ran the album every time they went to listen to it?
No
Pretty much yeah until they got sick of it
Sometimes the same album would stay on repeat for months
Then you had your folks with the 6 Disc changer and they jumped around a lil more but still they would have the same 6 albums in that mf for like a year 😂
Also there would only be like 6 releases a year anyway 😂
Wayyyyyy less music to consume back then. You had to be there
