im convinced 90% of ppl just separate art and artist in their minds unconsciously. everyone's heard that tupac caught a rape charge. almost everyone still respects tupac as a rapper.

where it gets weird tho is 99% of the time nobody wants to just come out and say "no i really don't care abt who they are as people if i like the music"

convinced most ppl feel that way but for one reason or another are strongly against actually admitting it.

im not lol ill tell u straight up r kelly made great music, even though i think he's probably one of the most f***ed up famous people of the past 50 yrs. s***, im a fan of tay k's music and he is a literal murderer.

To be fair, that was just an allegation that's never been proven and the evidence for it is very shaky.

But Tupac has been dead since 96 so you can't really compare it to a controversy involving a living artist in the social media age.

I promise those artists get plenty of slander. You’re not making the point you thought you were.

this part right here is facts. and some people will say they draw lines to certain stuff but then when someone else does it they’re moving goalposts. just separate the art and go about your day

Also funny how people forget that Dolores C Tucker tried to get Pac's music banned, Ross lost a deal for his date rape lyric, LGBTQ movements tried to boycott Eminem, and Tyler got banned from the UK for his lyrics.

    Niggas got selective memory lol.

ngl i think we all just need to accept that the kinds of people who succeed in the music industry tend to be twisted weirdos, there's a reason success is associated w selling ur soul. whether u know it or not, ur favs are probably f***ing disgusting people.

and the important thing is, it really doesn't f***ing matter. success is 90% labels 10% fans. picking and choosing who u listen to based on morals is not going to keep awful people from success. arguments like "you are financially supporting a bad person" are majorly flawed bc of this. in reality, who you listen to doesn't really financially matter. not listening to "cancelled" artists really only functions as a way to morally grandstand and (i hate this term) virtue signal. 100% performative bullshit.

so respectfully, yeah i will still listen to carti and remix to ignition and tay k and whatever kankan drops next. I dont give a s*** about their moral fiber, as long as the music is good.

OP mentioned being held accountable though.

Ross losing that deal, Pac/Em getting protested, and Tyler getting banned from a whole country clearly show that they were held accountable at one point.

It's just that there's tons of recency bias in the social media age so whichever controversy is the most current trending topic will get talked about the most for the time being.

he meant being held accountable in the court of public opinion, not specific reactions.

talking abt the collective mindset of society at large.

  • Jul 29, 2021

were you not here when Tyler was being burned at the stake like two weeks ago for talking to a 19 year old

  • Jul 29, 2021

I mean people do keep the same energy. They get mad, they make jokes, they get disrespectful, something else happens and they move on. They need to bring new energy and start running down on celebs for the fade.

Just want to say the Bella Harris story is completely false.

TMZ broke the story and everyone else used them as sources. Then TMZ recanted the story because and every journalistic integrity put out a retraction, because it was verifiable.

Some of these Drake's a weirdo stories are literally Perez Hilton tier. Believing them is Facebook boomer status.

  • the music industry in a nutshell is incredibly f***ed up, and anyone trying to cast judgment on one artist in particular is automatically a hypocrite.

Yall worship the very thing you swear to condemn

you can say literally the same exact thing about XXX’s domestic violence case, what’s the difference?
