That's not a literal quote dumbass... Everyone wanna dress "black", talk "black", act "black".... They want to do everything that they black people do but never want to deal with half the s*** black people go through. That's not even some victim s***, it's literally how s*** is

This s*** is literally narrative, no one gives a f*** that much including the Asians putting dreads in their heads lol yk why their doing that? Cause that s*** is on TV/viral music. You’re basically yelling at a wall ITT

Like be deadass who are these people? It’s def not the Japanese people in that photo lmao

You’d have an argument if this was some white person in America you know has some agenda against black people but it isn’t, it’s random Japanese people thousands of miles away who don’t even know a single black person mostly. There’s nothing to criticize them on here

If someone wants to consume whatever s*** music/clothes/aesthetic it’s cause that s*** was marketed to them and sold off as trendy

They dgaf if it’s black/Asian/whatever it’s all consumerism and they’re looking for diff experiences

Idgaf if someone thinks halal food is tasty or that hijabi girls look pretty, my identity isn’t tied to material s*** lol I’m Arab and that’s it

Consumers are gonna consume, be mad at rappers hoeing themselves out to make a few million and stereotyping black people

No dog in ya argument because I think theres a difference b/n cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation

But how are u gonna describe all of these things and how black culture is seen az trendy and the implications of consumerism and all that and not see how black people can have an issue with that ?

Like its culture not a product being sold.

And blaming it on rappers is silly, like that's their hair, what do u want them to do w it lol

Here me out here — black people or whatever Mexican/Asian you want to talk about kind of POC celebs hoeing themselves out as commodities for entertainment industry executives that are pimping them and selling empty characterizations is the real problem here

You know exactly who I’m talking about too, the lazy ass Tyler Perry or George Lopez’s of the world who base their identity off stupid s*** and reinforcing stereotypes in whites or whoever audiences

If you’re gonna put an aesthetic out there and make money off it, it’s gonna get mimicked and become a commodity like anything else that makes money — that hairstyle is part of the brand and whatever else associated by outsiders to be ‘black’ how ppl did the XXX haircut or Wiz Khalifa s*** back in the day?

No one non black would wear dreads as a style statement if 1) they simply didn’t like how they look 2) it wasn’t glamorized by being worn by famous people

Again, why the hell would an Asian in a foreign country care about American socioeconomic issues outside of intellectual curiosity? All they see is the media exported abroad. Do you know s*** about Asian culture that would be offensive if you copied it? Do you even care?

I get it more if you’re talking about a white American here who goes out of their way to avoid black social issues

But I don’t want the argument “it’s just their hair” people copy anything celebs do even s*** as stupid as some fashion styles out there like shaving off your whole eyebrows, they aren’t copying it to be black, they’re copying cause any random celeb with clout can cause trendy styles to pop up

But ur not getting what I'm saying.

U can't compared dreads to Tyler Perry or George Lopez making money off stereotypes, simply because dreads is just a hairstyle not a stereotype of anything.

Yes hairstyles can be apart of someone's brand but that usually only happens for unique looks like colored dreads or what not. Like is Chris Evan's haircut a part of his brand or something that's being commoditized ? I'm not getting ur point about celebs glamorizing them, when they're simply just wearing their natural hair.

Ur missing the point, I personally like the idea of culture being able to spread and cherish by others in an ideal world. But I would get why people would be upset about non blacks wearing dreads carefree while on the flip side when dreads are worn by us, they're frowned upon and carry a stigma.

Like wouldn't u feel away if there's something in ur culture that u do naturally but get s***ted on immensely by people outside ur culture, only for them to do the same without any type of stigma ?

Then adding centuries worth of context of culture being disrespected and stolen, like it's understandable for someone to feel a way. It's not like anyone itt saying they should be punished or throw in jail or sum s***

You’re wrong, what you look like is commoditized completely once you become a celebrity or any type of influencer and that includes all your physical features, you can’t just play off dreads as just hair because guess what 95% of people in the world don’t have dreadlocks so if you’re seeing rich people on TV wearing that’s suddenly associated with rare pop culture and status — something to mimic for social clout, not to ‘be black’

Also you’re ignoring the point and key topic of this thread — why would a Japanese care? How much does any American ITT know about nuanced sociopolitical discussions about Japanese and cultural sensitivities surrounding their racial minorities ? Like come on now. This whole s*** is privileged Americans arguing in a circle and projecting issues that these people have nothing to do with or know about lol

That’s the whole point of this thread, you’re not having a US only focused convo here, people are literally ignoring the point to yell at ignorant lame whites who aren’t even the topic of the thread

In New Zealand it’s extremely popular to copy the 90s g funk era from the cars to music to slang

Look up their rap from 2020s

90s West coast culture is huge in Southeast Asia/that general oceania area

Who said anything bout they HAVE to care bout how black people feel towards them wearing dreads lol ? No one has to care about anything, that's not gonna change how people feel bout it.

Again no one said they need to have full knowledge of american social political discussions, I have only said that black people can and mostly likely will feel a way bout seeing that. And telling black people they don't have the right to feel that way is ignorant
