I think the rift really began when they didn’t go to Ye & Kim’s wedding. It just seemed like Kanye had a sour taste for them both after that despite going to the Grammy’s the following year together.

Then the rant in Sacramento happened where he publicly dissed the Carters for the first time ever cause he was mad about the VMAs.

For what's its worth, I remember reading a lot of takes that Beyonce's aim toward high culture, high art, Louvre, etc. post 2013 and especially circa 2018 was reminiscent of the Runaway aesthetic and basically followed in the footsteps of Ye. But of course his influence is wide.
