get off my d***. all i said is israel palestine is a crazy topic for a rap song. would be cool if someone pulled it off but u have to acknowledge that it would be very challenging. not rlly fair to judge rappers for not making one.

ik that's not a reach. dont act like im doing anything other than engaging in respectful discussion.

Streaming killed music in general and reduced it to its most generic impulses. It's bankable for rappers to talk d****, money, b****es. There's no point in making political statements just to get in trouble with Twitter and Tik Tok. That's how you end up being someone like Noname or Tom McDonald. Even J. Cole has gotten more generic in his social messages as time has gone on because he knows he's only hurting his wallet by being honest.

streaming was the cherry on top tbh, hip-hop was alr sliding in that direction in the 90s, it was just relatively more balanced

I just think its cynical? Like it would actually mean a lot to Palestinian/ Congolese people (u name it) if a rapper like Kendrick or Drake spoke up about it

i dont think kendrick knows deep about it and drake obviously probably has his own hang ups and would be looked at with a fine tooth comb if he said anything due to being half white and jewish

one that doesnt know much and another where he would be f***ed no matter what way he says

I expect rappers to talk about palestine tbh, i am dissappointed with any celebrities who dont tbh.

You are right, it is wrong to just hold rappers or black people responsible but I KNOW pac would do so much about it and it hurts me that its lacking right now.
If u ask rappers today pac is a legend and he is everybody's idol but?? Like. Show me some of it?

With Pop Skull in Gaza but not that Gaza, still its a maza

and rap has been very political lol @op

but its mainly america centric, and beyond that its very black centric, which if youre not from america you probably miss out on over half of the references and straight call outs - white people that live here miss out on some of it as well and theyre part of the country

but yeah youre not going to hear a mainstream radio rap song calling for a politician heads 9/10 because the radios and labels arent going to play and allow it

and it seems your country probably has a more indie and niche scene -so course the "leaders" in your scene seem like theyre saying more because they are essentially underground anyways thus they dont have responsibilities or media/industry politics as much - but in our underground and mid range artists they do exist as well

Because politicians and lawmakers dont have a pulse with the kids.

That tends to be what happens when they set age minimums to be 30.

Same.. but not getting my hopes up. The west is one big disappointment when it comes to stuff like this. And Israel already said theyre not stopping regardless of what the UN says

yeah i know about this and there was some people still mad at him even tho it was mostly a neutral stance just saying stop the killing and the funding

i meant tho it a more aggressive way (such as "picking a side" or being really specific) or in straight up music

it would be suicide for Drake imo & I actually agree he shouldn't talk so direct about it because it wont be taken fair in either way due to "optics" - and would inevitably become wealth shaming n probably jew conspiracies on top of it

and on the other side- i am also of the opinion that if you dont know a subject then dont speak on the subject, thats in general - and in kendricks side he's only ever talked about american issues and mainly pertaining to black & low class people - he's never been o0r prresented himself as a world politics leader/connoisseur

i really dont know what people expect but we get this same song and dance constantly every time something like this - happened with ukraine/russia and s*** too etc.

Being a disappointment is an understatement, they are complicit. Our former prime minister covered up isreali warcrimes.

And youre right, nothing will stop them because they are like rabid dogs

not surprised that a carti avi zoomer spent pages and pages of this thread arguing that a rap song about the Palestinian genocide would suck because "can you even imagine what kind of beat they would pick" and "I wouldn't be able to play it in front of the hoes"

And what do you think? It's always people complaining with no answers.

We need more popular black artists to speak out against the passive violence of capitalism.

streaming was the cherry on top tbh, hip-hop was alr sliding in that direction in the 90s, it was just relatively more balanced

even in the 90s, you had artists and groups talking d****, b****es, sex, money and selling off it. This has always been a bankable topic in hip hop. But the difference was that in the 90s and 00s, Kanye could make a hit about God, the Black Eyed Peas could make a hit about post 9/11 anxiety, Tupac could have a hit like Changes, etc.. But since streaming, the priority has shifted from putting effort into writing introspective and thoughtful music to going for memes and putting out 100 songs a year rapping about the same s*** in a 2-3 minute song format. The reality is that we have so much f***ing content now thanks to streaming that we don't have the time to listen to a song and truly think about it because we have a hundred other songs to get to. Society is progressively getting dumber as a result because we don't sit with our art anymore and so we mentally regress into what is safe, comforting and easy.
