Like you have hiphop, the sound to actually reach people easily more than ever. I dont have a say in this as a non american but even in my country hiphop is more political and more connected with the people in a political way and in my country you do go to jail for cursing the president or even implying it.
Im just trying to get a perspective and understand it better
Of course some rap mentions police brutality and racism but why it just doesnt get deeper than that. And yeah i know there are some concsious rapper but even lupe cant even stand with palestine so i dont even know what to expect.
Im not the biggest pac fan and there are manyy better rappers than him but nobody not even trying to do what he did is crazy to me.
I love some songs about money clothes and hoes and its ok to make music for fun but cmkn. Nobody has a bigger motivation for a bigger pupose? Is it too dangerous? Is there no point? Yeah I get that kenny cant be the savior and yeah he is probably closest to it but is it weird to ask for more?
I mean rappers are still saying f*** the police. It was brave and monumental when NWA said it. Powerful cultural moment for sure. But nowadays rappers are saying it like they say i f***ed your b****.
All im asking is cant hiphop go further than mentioning things? And why?
it ultimately means nothing be that your country or america, as an artist you just end up carving your own following that way and maybe doing press appearances at the white house or local food bank. even people who actually stood by their raps are nowhere to be seen e.g. dudes from dead prez, mos def and some others I cant remember off the top of my head
Cia infiltrated the genre about 30 years ago and steered it into the direction we’re at now, the same ones who own stock in prisons own the record labels
Let me go ask 21 Savage and Babydrill about the pros and cons of a progressive tax vs a flat tax for the middle class

They aint even gotta be that deep. Dont need no harvard education to realize the community problems.
But I think its more of a american culture thing than hiphop. Capitalism brainwashed a lot of people. Might be kinda rude to say it but many people are slave to the wealth money and status. Now people are so dumb the government doesnt even need a propaganda its crazy
facts bro why doesn't ja rule run for office
Yeah cuz thats what pac did.
Like jada said just cuz u got opinions doesnt make u a politician but what can we expect when kanye is defending candice i guess

Some people got their ethics as their priority

politics is a fully different game yeah. idk what ur rlly expecting musicians to do in the political world
Hiphop used to be the genre of the silenced people talking about dangerous and uncomfortable topics. now rappers are quiet about Gaza. Ironically the weeknd of all people has been the realest rapper right now.
"Nooooo my career" hiphop went from 2pac to the most spineless bottom feeders you could imagine
It’s pretty much what Mos was talking about, we strongly lack empathetic voices speaking to the struggles of the oppressed.
I like that hiphop has an easier barrier for entry so people can explore themselves, but the unintended consequences of this is it has led to a lack of strong, heartfelt messaging.
This thread reminds me of Waka floka sending gaddafis greenbook to xxxtentacion. He probably was crazy enough to get involved in politics at some point

calling the weeknd a rapper is kinda wild lol. begging for Israel-Palestine rap songs is also wild

Okay they recognize community problems, now what
Not sure why we are the only race that slurps up celebrity opinion as the gospel for our political woes.
How about we look towards the plethora of black engineers, doctors, scientists, lawyers, and entrepreneurs that surely have more insight to offer
calling the weeknd a rapper is kinda wild lol. begging for Israel-Palestine rap songs is also wild
Both of these 2 things are not wild to say at all.
This thread is about hiphop and politics and I mention the political issue that has millions on the street and celebrities scared for their careers.
The weeknd is a singer but he also raps on songs. That's why I called it funny that he is realer than any of these full time rappers.
All I said makes sense and you are wrong.
They just not built like that no more @op
Hip Hop (at least at the most mainstream level) is large enough now to be an industry. Once a movement becomes an industry its main goal becomes preservation of the status quo. We came a long way from kids in the Bronx making music with improvised equipment, that in itself was a rejection of the music industry and as such a political action at the time
Both of these 2 things are not wild to say at all.

at the end of the day bro it sounds like u called him a rapper just bc he's black. plus I don't rlly care that u mention israel-palestine it's just wild to me that u want rap songs abt it.
