What female rappers like Lauryn Hill are even getting signed today? There’s hardly anyone to support bro

Chika and Rapsody are reminiscent of them off the top of my head. Bree Runway is reminiscent of Missy, as is Yung Baby Tate. support them.

    dat guy

who tf listens to music to put society forward

the values that are being promoted through pop culture definitely help with shaping what's positive and what's negative

so yeah, music does have a lot to do with pushing the society forward / or backward

but what's forward to somebody is backward for somebody else, so it's all just subjective

"Music has a big influence on people. Most will chalk it up to “well if you’re so easily influenced that’s your own fault”, which is just the stupidest goddamn argument ever. Same goes for violence and d*** rap."

No it isnt. You are in control of yourself, and you can't abdicate your personal responsibility because of what you listened too. Even if you are too low impulse control to not let the music influence you, you can choose not to listen to it.

For this to be true we have to examine every issue in the world and just chalk it up to “well s*** they should’ve avoided that” or “it’s because they lacked personal responsibility” which is just not true. People are influenced and led, thats the entire point of business: to get you to buy into something.

Also we need to acknowledge that children are the most at risk.

Yup, I blame the industry for enabling it such that it was only possible for artists like nicki and cardi to be a thing

But back in the day when music labels didn't really care to police women in rap (likely because they didn't imagine rap as even being in the realm for women), we saw really talented women like them make a huge impact. And I think since then, women in hip hop have been marginalized a lot more by studios to be presented in a certain way or else

This is exactly how I feel too. I don’t think that there aren’t good female rappers, but I don’t think they get promoted to us AT ALL

y’all say s*** like this but everytime Rapsody or Chika drop something it’s CRICKETS on this forum

to be fair though, OP is talking specifically about why the industry doesn't push artists like them. Rhapsody literally got a Grammy nomination, and yet she may as well be an obscure artist in the genre with how she gets no love.

    blonded

people posting noname actual music just get responded to with "stupid b**** whisper rapper shut up" too

every single one of her threads filled with slander when most times she’s making a point with whatever she’s saying

Rhapsody is an incredible artist. Definitely recommend her recent album, which is close to great imo.

back to my point, industry support boils down to support of fans. Doja was on RCA’s backburner with her alt R&B s*** until people started f***ing with Moo on twitter and it randomly went viral

bullshit, I'm sure most of the artists you listen to don't have a clean record, but hold women to a higher standard to prove a point
