Meg and Cardi are actually adept at rapping. They are a clear step up from City Girls.

I don't know who that is but we cringed hard watching that new meg/cardi video yesterday. Not a single bar, another embarrassing Cardi chorus.

back to my point, industry support boils down to support of fans. Doja was on RCA’s backburner with her alt R&B s*** until people started f***ing with Moo on twitter and it randomly went viral

Yeah, but I think that is also just on the industry to push artists like that to exposure for people to listen to

I legit feel if Rhapsody was a dude, she could probably get even more love than a Schoolboy Q or something cuz she really do feel like a female counterpart to Kendrick at times. But cuz she isn't she gets like zero attention.

Even Nicki, as much as her image is sexualized, can actually rap (as seen on verses like Monster), but its clear she ain't doing that cuz s***sells

    blonded

"I'm outside, I see the s***" is textbook definition of anecdotal evidence

If you want to search for some peer reviewed articles on marriage, birth rates, crack in black neighborhoods and how it coincided with gangsta rap’s popularity, the effects of p*** and overstimulation as it relates to dealing with people irl, etc. they exist if you want them.

I don't blame women but I understand OP's point. I have no problem with embracing sexuality in music but seems to be the only way you get popular as a female rap artist. Why can't there be more balance

    dat guy

bullshit, I'm sure most of the artists you listen to don't have a clean record, but hold women to a higher standard to prove a point

nah i feel the same about male artists

also, i will not go out of my way to not listen to an artist because they promote values that i think are wrong (so i will still listen to future or cardi if the song sounds good) but i can still notice that the industry is pushing negative values through music

but then again, those values are negative to me but can be positive to you, so the whole discussion doesn't really matter

Will be called all types of names and ad hominem for this by underaged, and they’d be right...IF there was any sort of balance.

I have no issue with sex-based imagery or work, but damn is this literally all the industry has to offer? You can make the case it’s just entertainment but over the past 5 years I’ve seen girls completely transform into Meg, Cardi, and City Girls clones. They think it’s empowering.

Music has a big influence on people. Most will chalk it up to “well if you’re so easily influenced that’s your own fault”, which is just the stupidest goddamn argument ever. Same goes for violence and d*** rap.

    Agree 100%

And I think this there is a lane that women in rap aren’t exploring and this is why acts like summer walker, Ella Mai and others are blowing up so quickly
