It’s based on the hits and Dre had great marketing. Dre was part of two major groups labels- Death Row and NWA. It’s hard to compete with that from fan’s perspective.

But I think Quik is a better producer.

It’s the same dynamic with J Dilla and Kanye, Dilla is the GOAT producer but he never had the mainstream success like Dre or Ye.

It’s not up for debate. No way S&S is even in the same paragraph as The Chronic.

Really? I personally like Safe and Sound as a whole more, but the Chronic has better highs

You got 2001 on CD? That might be the best way to understand

I don't. Just listen on Apple Music

no idea probably d****. this was back in 2013.
I just looked it up and theres no information about what happened to her after. I think it was the dude that did it and she probably got charged with neglect.

Because he simply isn't on Dre's level

  • Warren G, Daz (albeit he’s pretty insufferable), Quik are three of the greats who really mastered G Funk but don’t get their full due. But I would say Quik is like the Sly Stone of it.

Dr. Dre is a producer in the music industry sense while Quik is more of a traditional hip hop producer.

Basically, Dre produced many classic beats on his own but he's also used many co-producers to help execute his vision on the boards and he's executive produced many classic albums too.

DJ Quik is a better beatmaker and composer for sure but his sound is quite a bit more limited than Dre's and he hasn't really had any comparable impact.

There is no "Chronic" with Quik that has impacted not just the hip hop world but pop culture. Many other rap albums including Ready To Die have drawn strong influence from the Chronic. It's become a benchmark for many producers. Quik doesn't have a comparable album.

Also, crews matter. Quik mainly associated with "alright" rappers while Dre was able to get some of the biggest names in hip hop such as NWA, Eazy, DOC, Snoop, Em, Michelle, 50, Game, Kendrick, etc. to help execute their visions well on top of giving them classic beats.

Also, Dre has some of the best mixing and engineering in hip hop history. 2001 may as well go down in history as one of the cleanest mixed rap albums ever.

Like I said, Quik is good. He's still a legend but Dre is more of the full package. He's done soul sampled beats with Straight Outta Compton, the electronic sound with World Class Wrecking Cru, R&B beats with Michelle and some other R&B singers, the G Funk sound with Chronic/Niggas4Life/Doggstyle, orchestral sounding beats on 2001, Neo Soul influenced beats on Compton, and he even experimented a bit on Missionary.

Dre's music is far more ubiquitous to hip hop than Quik's at this point. In Da Club, Gin & Juice, Real Slim Shady, and Still Dre alone are some of the most iconic and timeless beats in rap history. Quik has classics too but not to that scale.

It's apples and oranges at the end of the day. Quik is a talented beatmaker and musician who has a specialty that works very well for him and has given him his own distinct sound in West Coast hip hop.

Dre is basically a modern Quincy Jones. He's a visionary whose great at making his own beats but can also make magic in the studio with clean mixing, co producers, variety, and timeless sounds that stand the test of time and have universal appeal.

this Dre is pretty much hip-hop royalty, Quik definitely deserves his flowers though

Didnt have the same connections and dre was in nwa and founded deathrow, discovered snoop, introduced g funk, dropped an absolute classic mad a classic track with 2pac AND THEN he came back and dropped another classic in a different style, discovered eminem and essentially discovered 50. It cannot be overstated how big his influence is. Also before he dropped compton he had a reputation that everything he touched was gold. I remember.

Dj quik made nice music, but even my grandma knows california love, and im pretty sure none of my friends know quik

because he is way more regional and rarely gave his production to people outside of CA

meanwhile Dre has literally worked with everyone and gave his sig style to all coasts and sides - plus dre has also established other artists that went global while quik hasnt - but quik is still very influential and important for CA in general and helped many CA artists

    also marketing

tl;dr: quik is too regional compared to dre and doesnt have nearly as much universal accomplishments as dre, but he is still very important in his own right and of course is very skilled in general

quik is in the convo tho when you want to have a real producer talk with other people that know the talk

Love how the tl;dr is almost just as long

Quik is cool but Dre was more versatile and a better hitmaker

    tale old as time

  • Dre like the only dude that can actually approach Berry Gordy as far as bringing us a bunch of stupidly iconic artists

  • Dre is a much better song maker
