I'd consider him in the conversation, but the two major factors I'd say are

    1) he blew up after Drake/Cole/Kendrick, who feel like they all blew up around the same time

    2) he lacks the technical rapping ability the three have. He's kinda in a completely different lane

There really is no definition of the big 3, they're just the 3 guys from the blog era with the biggest and loudest fanbases. Kind of a right place right time kind of thing

The idea that you can remove/replace any one of them is something that needs to be retired. It's kinda like how the big 3 of anime is/was Naruto, One Piece and Bleach. They were the 3 most successful and impactful animes at the time, all with varying levels of global appeal. You can't bring up another popular anime from the mid 2010s and replace it with like Bleach for instance. Doesn't work that way.

Future/Travis/Tyler/etc will never be a part of that trio and that's okay. Doesn't take away from their success and anything they've accomplished.

    This

Big 3 only applies to those during that era because we were actively looking for the ones who would make it out to go on and be established acts

Now we retroactively create Big 3s from past eras but it wasn’t a thing or conversation before the Blog Era

Tyler I would put in a big 4 because he came up around the same exact time, he has the rapping ability, he has the mass appeal, the influence, the discography. But you're right Big 3 is not an active thing where rappers are rotated in an out, it was a blog era moment and can only be recreated organically.

I do like these conversations when they're giving guys like Tyler, Future, and Travis their flowers but it is meaningless beyond giving flowers

It should be a Starting 5 instead of Big 3. Nicki and Future helped define the 2010s just as much as the other 3.

I wouldn't put Tyler in there because his career didn't really take off mainstream-wise till the 2020s. For most of the 2010s, he was dropping music and building a fanbase but we didn't consider the music he made pivotal culturally the way we did for Drake, Kendrick and Cole's music.

Look, rap is blessed with several generations of talented and successful artists. We don't need to all lump them into each other because doing that takes away from what they've all done and everyone deserves their flowers for what they've contributed for the body of hip-hop.

Agreed but there's no such thing as starting 5 lol. I actually think Nicki gets the shortest end of the stick in these discussions because her run started in 2009 (same with Drake) but then again, she has the benefit of being the GOAT female rapper so I guess that makes up for it in some way.

I've been wishing for a feature on here to just auto hide/filter out threads with a certain word in them

wont happen but imagine never having to see another big 3 thread again
