"Why do you talk about black people as though they’re different to white people in some way, sounds kinda divisive"

Because the sad reality of things is that black people are different from white people. The fact that many of these issues exist in the first place is based on black people being treated as if they are different from white people.

S***, the rich/well off black family, let's call em the Huxtables or the Banks as an example, are still treated differently from white people. It's not to be divisive. It's just pointing out the reality that we live in a very racist society.

It’s not a dig at you personally, but you don’t you feel like this race issue in America will never be solved as long as blacks and whites see themselves as different to eachother?

Shouldn't you be telling this to white people though, seeing as they're the historical oppressors?

    Come on lmao

    good question

could have something to do with incentivising single parenthood by providing welfare for single black mothers that makes it logically better to divorce and collect that than make a marriage work

    Teenage years

I've always felt that most white people think that black kids either drop out of high school or shortly has after graduating and then put the blame on them for not taking school seriously.

I know people that were doing s*** at 10/11 years old. At the time you don't really think of it. Just stuff like you better not mess with that nigga or else he'd get like 20 people the next day to jump your ass, but when you look back it's like damn at 10/11 years old that dude's future was already set in stone. He was never gonna finish school, was never going to get out his neighborhood, was never gonna earn a legitimate income.

That's why you gotta start EARLY with educating these kids about street crime/violence and keep doing so until they graduate high school. I also feel that schools should not be relagated to neighborhoods. Kids should be allowed to go to the better funded schools. Not only would their education be better it allows them to see other places at an early age, maybe help motivate to get out of their current situation. Lots of things that can and need to be done

    Bachelors or Masters?

I'm a community-based clinician. I pretty much provide community and home-based behavior therapy services for youth.

Nice to see a fellow male social worker, lol. I just graduated with my MSW with a concentration in school social work (dunno if that's where I want to be though).

And yeah...fuck CPS, lol. I'm not dealing with that much stress. If you aren't 100% passionate and committed, then you're taking years off your life, lol.

I know the VA pays well. Everybody wants to either work for the VA or in a hospital it seems. Good and secure money. Try to fight hard as hell for a VA internship though if you can.

I’m about 2,5 years from my bachelors, plan on getting a job with the hospital my aunt and mom work at (so I can gain experience) and then work on my masters and after I get that I want to try to get in with the VA. They told me basically there’s a zero percent chance at VA without a masters but with connections you can get in the regular civilian hospital easily with BA.

School social work is a good one to be at too I think, decent pay and good benefits and not as stressful as CJ or cps. Those are the only two social work fields I am going to stay away from 100% dealing with all that bullshit and stress for under 40,000 dollars

And we definitely need more male social workers, especially black male social workers. A lot of the work a lot of sw do is with the black community (especially those in the public service like CJ and cps) and we got white women working with them. Nothing wrong with that but they just wouldn’t understand the black experience the way that is needed to truly make a change.

You not gon get it. That simple there's nothing else to be said. However you may be 'educated' or well-researched on the topic is not gonna give you the real world experience and implications of the black struggle, on top of your own culture removing you from being able to empathize and understand the gravity of it all beyond statistics

    Please know this

op these are two separate issues, both are born out of circumstances white people have made for black communities as a result of generations of slavery and unethical institutionalization, disregard and improper funding of poor black communities in infrastructure and education, etc.

100% guaranteed black on black violence would not be as rampant as it is if it wasnt for the s*** white people have pulled on them. there would be more educated folk, less d*** dependence, less trauma, etc.

black on black violence is born from what white people have done, black lives matter is also born from what white people have done, it's just that the former is used as a deflection mechanism of the second, and regardless of ill intent or not people are too ignorant to see that.

Dope. I interned at a school for a year and it was a breeze. Being a black male social worker def a plus. Only time where I actually feel like I have some privilege cause there's a need.

Black on black homicide is as horrible as police homicide.

Black on black homicide is not nearly as protested as police homicide is.

Two things can be true at once.

Let's say we protest black on black homicide. What will the government do about it?

  • Jul 6, 2020

Intra group violence is less appealing than inter group violence. It’s hard to rally anybody around it. For example, 35 shootings took place in NYC this weekend. Almost all occurred in impoverished majority black neighborhoods. Will there be any national outrage or anti violence sentiment like there was regarding police abuse?

  • Jul 6, 2020

That being said, I hate this argument anymore because it’s almost always used to detract from incidents of policing brutality. It’s a more widespread issue that should at least be held to the same level of activism and discussion
