what exactly do you mean by "modern celebrity"
Meaning he is just the male version of Kim K
Boring soul samples. Boring lyrics. Boring beats.
Rap Music is crazy because a 15 year old in 2010 can come and say s*** from 1995 is boring because he only knows Wayne and Kanye and then 10 years later a 15 year old is calling Kanye boring because he only knows Uzi and Carti
I’m scared to imagine what F***ery will be going on that makes 15 year olds in 2038 say Uzi and Carti are boring lmao

I like 90’s.
Where the f*** do you think yeezus came from? Dj mustard and lex Luger? Quiet
Are you you kidding me d***rider?Yeezus have Daft Punk and a lot of other popular/mainstream artists as Kanye
Yes 808s came after tpain
Tpain even said 808s is a remake of his album
But you a Ye stan so you dont know that…
Yeezus was literally the underground sound at the time too
no pain albums sounds like 808's & heartbreak
love Epiphany but nothing on there sounds like what Ye was doing. and yes Wayne and Pain were using autotune before Ye even Snoop.
Y’all are pretty much arguing beat selection vs vocal technique
Ye took the vocal technique from T Pain
Subject matter from Cudi
And beats from 80’s mixed with modern bass/808 at the time
This arguably could be on 808s if you hear it in Ye’s voice but of course beats from 05 aren’t gonna sound like beats from 08 just off how fast the club /beat landscape changes between 04-05, 06-07 and then 08 going into 09 (side note which is why it sucks that music in the last ten years has pretty much stayed revolving around trap beats but that’s another thread)
dont see how these vocals are similar to any of the songs I listed
dont see how any of those songs verses sound like cudi bars
yes the beats have heavy 80s influences no one said kanye invented that minimal electro sound, but the overall soundscape he created was dope and innovative at the time
not sure how a person listens to these b2b and decides that kanye ripped his vocal style from tpain
Tbh, though, I do feel Outkast's, Missy Elliot's, and Pharrell's impact on "alternative rap" gets downplayed because of the narrative centering around Ye post Graduation.
That sales battle lowkey caused many young rap fans to rewrite history. People think the 90's or early 00's was all gangster rap before College Dropout when that's not really true. In fact, DMX and 50 Cent revived gangster rap if anything. They were both called "The New 2Pac" who were getting rap away from the flashiness of Bad Boy(X) or the poppiness of Ja Rule and Nelly(50).
Once they both declined, it was inevitable that gangster rap would've fallen off.

Graduation was really a culmination of what Pharrell & timbo were doing , what kanye already did , and what bands like MGMT were doing but taken to another level of accessibility . I agree that alt rap artists before Kanye don’t get their flowers for shifting the climate. S*** even Tribe’s influence is kinda overlooked , although the quality of their music isn’t

I don’t see it.
The T Pain song sound so much like all the RnB that came before it
808s doesn’t sound dated like that
And that’s just talking about the vocals
yes because 808s perfectly encapsulated what was hot in 2008
mdbtf reflects hip hop in 2010
and yeezus was the mood in 2013
name an album like donda in 2021
