you just listed the top artists rn, 3 of which had the biggest songs of the year literally and dude doesnt really have any hit singles to drive the album

so 300 million people just listening off the strength of being that invested in you is not really anything to look down on

where is his single thats supposed to compete with Suge, The Box, Good as Hell or OLD TOWN ROAD?! LMAO four of the biggest records to drop last year and arguably of decade

its ok to s*** on his fans and album and i havent even really heard the s*** to be ready to defend it but also be ready for actual numerical a***ysis of what youre saying, nobody saying you cant make the thread but you also cant say we cant make u look stupid for calling that a flop lol

So he can’t make hits then? I suppose
    How did uzi outsell him?
And that doesn’t mean 300 million listened to him lmfao there’s 14 tracks and there’s no way of finding how many people listened to him. They could play 4 seconds or half the song we have no idea of how streams are counted behind the scenes which makes a number like “300 million” completely useless without context. 200k gives it context. 200k for a megastar like the Weeknd whos supposed to be drakes equal and MJ’s successor... smells like a flop

If you’re referring to pure sales numbers, literally almost every artist’s pure sales have tanked since the takeover of streaming. Example: Views did ~850k pure first week, ~1m total then 2 years later, Scorpion did ~160k pure first week, ~750k total but first album to do a billion streams first week (actually unsure it’s been done again since). My point in saying all that is the music industry is fundamentally different than it was a decade ago and the internet is why. Sales numbers of the biggest artists nowadays are in no way comparable to artists that were popping before the internet. Had both Billboard been counting streams for charts some years earlier and the streaming base been as big as it is now, the first half of the decade would’ve involved a million number one Hot 100 tracks from Drake long before he ever got to One Dance. And hip-hop/R&B artists as a whole would’ve dominated even more 2010 forward and kicked the watered down pale girl pop music that dominated the radio at that point off it’s pedestal way quicker.

"Total U.S. streams fell by 10% last week as offices, schools, gyms, etc. closed."
literally says this in the forecast article lmao.

kendrick is gonna delay his album because he will also severely underperform if he drops his album in these circumstances.

I dont think streams count unless u listen to a certain amount of it

Futsal Shuffle I Want It That Way and Eternal Atake has been hyped for 2-3 years

200k is completely useless once they change the metric to 500 streams = 1 sale

Now is it suddenly more impressive because his "sales" triple because old white men want to make their artists' numbers look better by lowering the metric?

Again u realize saying 300 million+ streams is a "flop" makes u look silly so u sticking wit the 200k lol

Lol “old white men” made all the rules for streaming too so that doesn’t matter. I’m using 200k because it’s a metric that has some meaning in a time when none of these mean anything really. 200k equivalent album units make a little more sense that 300 million whatever
What’s the threshold then? If it was 150 million you would say “150 million people streamed it” which isn’t true lol. 300 million sounds like a lot until you break it down
Remember when every big album would set spotify records? I haven’t heard anything for this one

the problem with this site is that people only measure success based on first week sales. they can't look beyond that. i wonder if everyone called Bruno Mars 24K Magic (one of the best selling albums of last decade) a flop when it did 205K first week

More Life and KOD also did around 300 Million Streams the first week while also selling less pure albums (at least for KOD)

Are we also calling those albums flops or is it different for The Weeknd?

I still don't understand how selling 400k total units, his best number since BBTM, is a flop when he's never done anything far above that and his singles have flopped.

His numbers still being that strong despite his singles flopping shows his star power if anything. If he had even one strong or solid top ten hit he probs could've sold 500k.
