I don't know what a "bland sound" is exactly, but a lot of mainstream rap has been generic/bland for the last 3 years. I don't think it's a particular "sound", moreso it's just a lack of effort and/or creativity.
Nope
Imagine Air Force Ones by Nelly being one of the most popular songs around that time and people dare to s*** talk the era we’re currently in.

idk why y’all would ever champion the mainstream when it hasn’t been good for the past 2-3 years
just go underground
Sad seeing what rap has become. Listen to the Flava In Ya Ear remix with Biggie, LL, Craig Mack and Busta. Each of them have such a different and unique style smh sad what rap has become. Now everybody has the same flow, same beats, same subject matter. same s***

Honestly this is the only answer we can give; the true stuff on spotify with like <100k plays is honestly the stuff that is the best you can find. Rap going extremely mainstream really f***ed up the quality of it for those first few tiers of artists
the "bland" sound comes from the production 90% of the time
but rappers aren't hopping on the experimental beats producers make
i know i make plenty of out there s*** but ive been convinced into crafting some truly generic beats for artists bc its just what they want. sad state
honestly mfs like rxpapi, 10kdunkin, tony shhnow all decent rappers, but what rlly sets them apart is they will actually try to rap over beats that aren't basic as f***

Rap is supposed to be hard, with edge, and weird to a degree (don’t confuse this with hipster artsy s***). Rappers don’t want to challenge themselves by rapping over some unorthodox s***
body isn’t even the sound of megs discography at all lmao have you never heard of fever op?
Y'all gotta realize people talk about this in every era. Even in the 90s people were complaining about the mainstream sounding "bland"

This tho. It’s crazy how we became the old heads that we hated growing up and we’re only in our 20’s for the most part lol.

The music progressed wayyyy too fast IMO, 2013-2017 was too much innovation in terms of literally everything
