People hate it because it’s more rock than R&B

    rock? cause it had GATAR?

  • Mar 27, 2020

Literally every song on there is 10/10

The Birds, Gone, and Rolling Stone are some of his best songs of all time

Like who the f*** hates it, tf

I rephrased the title. I more meant that, for example, house of balloons is the tape that won the Polaris music prize, it’s the one that’s deemed the classic all these years on by critics and some fans, overall it was way more critically acclaimed and Thursday was deemed as a step down at the time and even now in some s*** I read. I think they’re dumb as f*** and have s*** taste, I just can’t even fathom why they’d even begin to think this. Like the reviews should be roughly the same for each tape, since they’re all so damn great, but on Thursday they noticeably taper off.

This is from a Resident Advisor review at the time (a site not known for reviewing r&b music mind you, plus this was an 8.0 review)

“Its quick follow-up, Thursday, is not a disappointment, though it's hard to imagine many records standing up to the majesty—or novelty—of House of Balloons.”

Bruh what? This also sort of helped me understand why though. I guess they were so startled by HOB, like it was so new and unique to them they expected... idk, something completely different? F*** critics but they do influence the eventual opinion most people will have on s*** unfortunately. People just found dumbass reasons not to give this the same acclaim HOB did, like oh they found out more about Abel at this point and Drake was featured and since it’s not such a mystery anymore they feel the need to be snarky and criticize the subject matter of the album. Who gives a f***? Why does anyone check for these critics or listen to a word they say? What’s odd also is that their review for HOB was 3.5 but in their review for Thursday imply it’s inferior... makes no sense

his vocals on Thursday kinda annoying

that's one song and not even the best example of that. most of the mixtape has nothing to do with rock at all. i'm genuinely сurious now: have you ever listened to a rock album?

this s*** with abel fanbase getting kinda anecdotic i swear. i thought OGs still got sanity but now you ended up making up genres

It’s not rock bro, if anything it’s a bit ska sounding in its menace. You need to listen to more music my man. Thursday is not a rock project. Not attempting to diss you at all just how I feel

yo OP you spittin facts right now but Like this is a 10 out of 10 mixtape. Lonely Star is a f***ing classic, Life of the Party is frightening and amazing at the same time, Thursday is a classic, The Zone is a veritable f***ing soundscape with a really good Drake feature, The Birds parts 1 and 2, f***ing Gone... Rolling Stone, the track that told us how s*** was gonna be the next 8-9 years, Heaven or Las Vegas which, despite being the weakest track on here for me and my least favorite out of all the mixtape closers, is still a great song. Even Valerie has one of Abel’s best vocal performances all time, you don’t know s*** about music or singing if you think otherwise.

Thursday is as good as or arguably better than House of Balloons for me, no question. So why are earth is there a huge disparity between the claim for house of balloons and Thursday? Ppl consider both to be among the classic trilogy but there’s generally a consensus that Thursday dipped in quality. I will absolutely never understand this, because Thursday is actually even more bold and experimental than HOB at points. Bro... y’all need to relisten to Gone if you’re not getting where I’m coming from. There’s nothing like that track on HoB. Thursday is Raw Power, HOB is great but Thursday is f***ing raw, right to the jugular. I also love EoS but that one was rightfully also acclaimed, not the subject of discussion here

Uhhh that’s not that controversial of an opinion. I also clearly said “as good or arguably better,” I personally believe they’re all of the same level of quality and should be appreciated as a complete body of work, I just have problems with people that say that it isn’t as good as HOB when in fact it is, and the case could be made that it’s better.

I definitely don’t skip anything on Thursday, while I usually end up skipping through HOB to get to Coming Down and Loft Music.

And I was joking b, I knew that post would get misinterpreted so I deleted it. Strange that ure trying to call me out over literally nothing uhm I don’t mind being weird either tho, I embrace it

I used to love Trilogy as a whole but for some reason I grew out of Thursday a little bit and to this day I'm still not sure why.
    Songs I still like are:
    Lonely Star
    The Zone
    The Birds part 1
    Gone
    Heaven or Las Vegas(sometimes)
