Like he wasn’t that big but his funeral was at the staples center
Had niggas makin art w him next to Kobe and nobody batted an eye
I still think about his death often and cried watching his funeral and I wasn’t even a fan
He was a big regional rapper. The online doesn't usually reflect their actually pull locally. He also was really active in his community.
????? Nipsy was huge with the people man just cause they don’t play him at your frat parties doesn’t mean he was not an impactful artist
Because not only was he a dope musician he was actively making strides to repair and give back to his community
He put as much work into activism as he did into rap
The Marathon was one of the first mixtapes i ever heard & i’m from the east coast
Nipsey was huge
A lot of people suddenly became long time nip fans after he passed it felt very weird to see
I don't think its a slight and bare weird that people are so reflexively defensive about it.
Nip had a long time fan base and some great tapes I listened to myself when I was in college
but the (great) reaction to his death and cosigns from so many heavy hitters in the industry did seem disprotionate to the buzz he had at the time. I remember a very lukewarm response to racks in the middle when it dropped vs after his death
Personally I think he was the perfect combo of relatable, humble, with a focus on ownership and entrepreneurship that made him so beloved, in addition to his music
Every time I see a hiphop fan dismiss someone like nip as “not big” because they didn’t entertain corporate politics that other mainstream rappers do I grow a little more disappointed
Nipsey was an independent rapper who kinda was a blueprint for other rappers who wanted to make sure they had full control of their own careers. And not only that, the money he made was actively reinvested into his community to better it
A lot of people suddenly became long time nip fans after he passed it felt very weird to see
This happens with every artist but especially with Nip because of all the work he was doing
you have to be from socal to understand.
He was a f***in legend
Not even
Im in Norcal and he was huge out here
When I saw his interview with Tariq nasheed i knew he was a real one & later understood his impact
