IS IT CAUSE ITS TOO LONG FOR RADIO?
SOTY
Might be because the length like you said or they felt they had better songs suited for radio
Yeah this fr is one of his best songs, really don’t think it would do well as a single though. People’s attention spans unfortunately wouldn’t give this song the proper time of day if heard on the radio or something
Doesn’t sound like a hit
It’s one of his best songs, but it would flop if it was pushed.
There’s also too many layers to the song, can’t imagine how’d it sound like if they tried to edit it for radio
I really feel like the AH first time listening experience would have been 10000x better if AH stayed an album cut
I can’t be crazy to think a trimmed down version of this song would actually do decently on radio+streaming it’d have to be pushed like you said

Ikr i was underwhelmed heavily by heartless and blinding lights

I’ve no idea why this song was released as a single in February. You would think he would’ve kept it in the tuck for the album but he didn’t even push it or anything

you’re right about the layers, even if trimmed down the right way i could see it shine but it’s easily top 5 in his discography imo ... it’s sad that this gen of music listeners can’t appreciate it as an experience at 6 min reminds of the pyramid dilemma with frank ocean

I think it was definitely his way of showing that this album was gonna be somewhat of a return to form with a little bit of everything sprinkled in. I remember when Blinding Lights leaked it was “ugh Starboy 2.0” and Heartless dropped it was “ugh more trap Abel” and I think releasing After Hours was his way of shutting those people up

yea it got no love, when it’s the title track of the album like someone said in the forum might as well named the album blinding lights on how hard that song was pushed by the label

i see this when thinking about it could of been a subtle nod towards the OG fans

The doubt after hours had on this website was crazy

🎯
Like someone else said it would have to be heavily edited for radio. It would ruin the song tbh.
Song is dope though as it is something that you could just vibe to in your room, but it also wouldn't sound awkward if it came on at a dance/party either.

Fr, this song had me thinking we were getting a 10/10 album of the decade type s***, instead we got a decent pop album.

No we still got 10/10 album of the decade! Unreal
