  • If it’s true that they deliberately fed Kendrick the fake info/photo and drake let MTG marinate the whole weekend then that’s his own fault this track is the equivalent to Chris Paul hitting a huge 3 to cut down the lead to 42

It wasn’t received well because people didn’t want it to be received well lol the internet was gonna s*** on anything he put out

Drake barred tf up on this song and the beat is fire.

Yes he was definitely barring up.. even with the internet hate that Drake has been receiving for years from detractors casual listeners and neutrals never just straight up ignored his music. Push-ups just dropped and it seems like he was on too and then suddenly it’s like the floor opened out underneath him. That type of contrast doesn’t just come from normal ‘internet’ hate.. something else had to happen

That said tho I think it’ll go down and one of the most misunderstood rap songs of all time tbh. I see a lot that people are just getting wrong with this track, like thinking he called himself the clowns that gave Kendrick the information

I think Drake despite his obvious skill as an emcee was noticeably flustered under pressure and dropped the ball communicating his points in a concise manner.l, but still.. family matters was literally one of his best showings as a nonstan yet he received crickets.. even if Kendrick kinda stepped on the release.. ppl would have normally still doubled back, but the amount of effort he put into that one, it sucks that everyone low key left it for dead

A lot of denial in here tbh. The song had some good moments but it felt a bit rushed to get a response out and given the fact that he titled it as such it was going to be held to an unbelievably high expectation that it did not meet. I don’t think the talking part at the end helps the song either, it really sounded like a mixture of rambling on about the situation rather than putting it into the music and basically conceding that Kendrick did the one thing that he could always hang his hat on and that’s make a hit

“ basically conceding that Kendrick did the one thing that he could always hang his hat on and that’s make a hit” - okay that was a misstep

    it's for multiple reasons:

    1) people are looking for a reason to be mad at it already because he's already been accused of insane stuff in the record before

    2) he's rapping on the defensive and talks about molestation and people think he misinterpreted the meaning of 'Mother I Sober' when he didnt lmao so people were mad at that and interpreted it as "victim shaming"

    3) people had already decided he lost the beef before he responded there

    4) group think. they see tweets with a lot of likes on kendricks side and automatically just agree

    5) it's a low energy diss record

  • May 9, 2024
    Josh

probably should've dropped it or something like it right after Meet the Grahams

Good point.. he waited alil too long after MTG

Because the rules are different for Drake they never know what they want cause at first it was stop trying to drop a banger/club hit and Rap forreal okay soon as Kendrick dropped a hit Drake dropped a track straight rapping now it’s oh it’s not a banger

Too 😴 after not like us

  • May 9, 2024

    IF

It comes out Drake sent fake information to Kendrick

Kendricks son is actually Dave Frees son

Kendrick hasn't seen the kids in 6 (5 and a half) months

Kendrick has been getting physical with Whitney

Then it is one of the coldest diss tracks of all time and will live forever.

  • May 9, 2024

Internet had already made up its mind by the time Not Like Us dropped.

That breeding resentment bar may have been the best jab out of this entire saga. Drake really barred out throughout this beef, much more clever lines.

    • "If I was f***ing young girls, I promise I'd have been arrested"

    • Gaslighting people into thinking the 11 year old daughter was his idea (even if it was. that was a terrible plan)

    • Not Like Us smashing him over the head

    • General hurt for him kidnapping "The Heart" series

    • "You're too prepared for this beef so I quit"

And overall he just sounds like a defeated dog licking his wounds

Song will age like fine wine

imagine if he put these bars in family matters

I wanna put these Drake stans coping in a lab and study them.

some insane cope on the first page

it flopped bc it’s just not a good song. too many holes and missteps. bro obviously didn’t plant that info. any jab about whitney or dave free don’t work because we just have zero proof of those claims. “mother i…” bar is one of the worst bars of bro’s entire career, reveals that bro simply did not listen to or understand the song he’s trying to clown, and is just an awful stance. “youre calling me a pedo bc you got molested lol! even though you didn’t!” is so shockingly stupid and tasteless that i’m surprised it even left the studio and i’m even more surprised that social media isn’t decimating him for that. he had to deny the pedo s*** at some point but it’s just never a good look to be on the defense in something like this w no good offense - i can’t name a single real zinger Drake gets off at Kendrick here. AND it sounds dreary and boring asf when kendrick dropped a west coast smash the night before. w nothing else in the tank this just felt lame

MTG worked bc even tho the daughter thing might be fake, every single other bar around it is piercing. NLU works bc while we might not have concrete evidence ovo has pedos, there’s just enough weird public s*** surrounding to make it believable, and those ATL bars were real asf.

this is the audio version of that “i know everyone is enjoying the circus…” notes app s*** that drake wrote after Adidon. it is damage control and it’s honestly a miracle it isn’t worse

    HAHAHAHAHAHA

    Because people are childish

  • Beat was incredible, revelation he baited Kendrick was incredible, but then he was in a tough spot— he directly said I’m not a oedophile, and if he didn’t, people would’ve continued saying “wELL hE haSnT sAiD hE isNt “ but he did and people are like whoa weird you have to say that directly 🙄so it was lose lose there. I think the biggest problem was the type of song Kendrick just dropped. Not like us was catchy and loud and the heart pt 6 was total opposite even tho dope track so it felt like a come down for a lot of people that they didn’t like

I'll slit your throat with the razor
And do Rick Ross Air like that one flight from Malaysia"

This is one of the best bars in this whole beef, people that didn't like this track are just d***riders or straight haters

  • May 10, 2024
    Fries

    Very boring

    Defeat drips from every word

Dreadful 'Mother I' scheme that leads to 'Gotcha! You were molested!', which doesn't look good from anyone

Spoken-word outro where Drake basically concedes the loss and admits he would dance to Kendrick's song if it wasn't calling him a pedophile

dont get this "he conceded the loss in the spoken word outro" that's literally not true anywhere in that part. if anything he says he's ready to come back when kendrick wants to "spit facts". im not even disagreeing with your other points really

for me it’s because we never really got a proper kendrick only diss track. and kendrick just made better songs. felt like this song isn’t up to drakes usual songwriting /rapping ability

he sounded uninterested. instead of being energized by hearing kendrick’s great tracks
