its got some of the best production on it that jay has ever got, its just cluttered with too many pop filler songs. shoud have been condensed to 15 songs or so

even the blueprint 2.1 comp he released, i didnt agree with the song selections. he just picked the most popular tracks from both discs on that one, and left off some of the really hardcore hip hop tracks

Because 87-89 was when hiphop made the switch for the better before acts like public enemy, rakim ,kool g rap, big daddy kane, nwa, slick rick, geto boys, epmd etc rap was “hip hop body rock” these Acts changed hiphop forever and gave the 90s artist a quick head start and sorter a style to run with.

"We have so many rappers from the 90s that are still relevant today"

    Literally only eminem and wayne.

And the 80s couldn't adapt because the 90s surpassed the 80s. Outside scarface and cube, none were able to progress

They definitely pioneered the more eccentric waveforms of Hip Hop

80s rap was eccentric in general, what are you on about? Have you seen Flavor Flav's chains?

Not what I mean. That's flamboyant

ATQC came with the eccentric flows and beats. They brought a more jazzy element to MCing. Before that it was very cut and dry for the most part.

Still disagree, Slick Rick was musically eccentric, Biz Markie as well.

A lot of the rappers that really blew up in the 90s started their careers in the 80s too

    Slick Rick is an exception
He may be the true pioneer of eccentric melodic rap fr

  • Mar 22, 2021

rap was changing up a lot during that time and if you were out for more than 3 years you were pretty much considered "old" back in the 80s

  • Mar 22, 2021

    Kool g rap >

  • Mar 22, 2021

Jay Z Dre and Snoop really the first generation to transcend eras

Slick Rick arguably had a pretty long run to have come out in the 80’s

They did, but the culture was still young and a little bit lost as far as the immediate shunning of anyone once they were “old”

    Rakim adapted great

Completely false and ridiculous, late 80s is when it became more complex
