@DAVIDP
This could literally be something made in 1993
@El_Senor
Glad to see that both of you enjoy it too, I don't get why people hate it so much. It's aged better than s*** released in the last 5 years
made this thread the other day. Really helped me appreciate every era in rap tbh 80s rap was awesome lol

Ultramagnetic MC's Critical Beatdown from 1988 has held up extremely well. Kool Keith always been forward thinking

rap changed too much by the time a lot of these cats was established. they coulda went and rapped on a bunch of dre beats or try to get on the whole money cash hoes s*** bad boys/rocafella was doing but it woulda been inauthentic to a lot of them

I love this album. KKKill the Fetus is fire too.
honestly Ice-T doesn’t get brought up enough outside of West Coast discussions, he’s very underrated as a pioneer in rap at the time.
He was making gangsta rap before NWA and he could spit well too.
Hes a jersey nigga thats why he dont get respect

Ice T-Colors such an underrated track. 6 In The Morning too. T was nice
it’s how the music aged imo
90s rap sound still sounds fresh to some people
80s rap was vastly different, because inspired by the music before it, which wasn’t rap
all rap after the 80s was inspired by rap
Probably worth pointing out that the gap between 1984 and 1988 is much larger than the gap between 1988 and 1992. Even within the 80s there was a lot of evolution, something like 3 Feet High and Rising would have been inconceivable in 1982 and I'd argue most present day rap fans would be able to appreciate the classics from 1987-1989 without much issue.

Truth be told, a lot Jersey dudes in the past were just as likely to ride for the West as the East because we also have a love/hate relationship with NYC...lol.
Pac's Outlawz click was even from Jersey and they said it on record even in the middle of the "West Coast/East Coast" feud lol.

Yeah i know s*** was weird to make s*** even more confusing, the top rapper on the west side is from new york 😂
Hot take: Rakim's verse on The Watcher II should get the praise Rick Ross' verse on DIAND gets. Jay just made it so f***ing difficult to listen to his music, until recently, that most of KTT has probably never heard the song lol
