This is a good song but he just doesn’t have the voice and that same charisma to pull it off as well as he did. Sounds choppy in comparison

Ofcourse not its f***ing Biggie we're talking about here lmao. Big might have the greatest delivery of all time not even Jay-Z could properly pull it off.

I was just saying the influence some of his schemes is there. I think the monotone delivery more so comes from the Jay-Z influence though. Blueprint era Jay-Z specifically. During that time Jay was so confident that his delivery became effortless and he would rhyme in a totally unbothered, nonchalant, sarcastic, matter of fact tone that really gave him that legendary boss glow and separated him from some of the other rappers of that era who were super try hard. I think Drake tries to replicate that.

I think he does an excellent job personally. He's single handedly carrying the torch for that style. Jay doesn't even do it himself anymore and all the coke rappers that emulate Jay use Vol 1 flows

    What’s funny about that

His Biggie influence isn’t as pronounced as his Jay influence but it’s definitely there

Omertà is Big schemes the whole song

He uses that scheme a lot

this is a closer variation to his style of flow than the song in op I guess, still it’s not a thing where you can say it’s comparable I don’t think biggie at all when he goes ‘real rap’

i can’t even think of a 90s rapper that was outright monotone in their delivery besides Scarface and that’s a reach tbh

    Guru was intentionally monotone

His rap delivery was more monotonous than his speaking voice

    S*** was great

what are you even talking about? he switched up his style on Her Loss and even drake haters admitted it was the funnest he's sounded in a while

What is with the weird strawmen arguments

You can't parse what OP is saying? Why do you have to take it to weird extremes. Nobody is talking about five voices.

I swear this forum makes me dumber

He uses the “boring voice” all over Her Loss.

Its a hidden influence. Great rappers hide their sources. You don't think Pac when you here J. Cole but its there. You don't think Rakim when you hear Nas but its there. You don't think G Rap when you hear Hov but its there, etc

Again I think the Hov influence is more pronounced than the Big influence though.

The “boring” flow you describe is derivative of artists like Jay-Z and Biggie and inspired by late 90s early 00s mafioso/braggadocio rap and is essentially the style that has earned him the most respect among traditional/hardcore rap fans. That style is also the main reason he gets grouped with Kendrick and Cole. They are considered a 2010s equivalent of Biggie Jay-Z and Nas. He’s never going to stop rapping like that lol

Sounds more like Mase. He used his “boring” voice his entire career

This nigga has made every single style y'all wanted from him yet somehow it's still the same complaints he came with some great melodies and pop/dance that y'all wanted on HNVM somehow that wasn't enough came back with all kinds of different flows and deliveries on fatd/her loss and y'all called it mid he came back a month later and gave y'all the bars y'all wanted and now it's boring it's waaaaaay to predictable at this point and I understand criticism is fair but sometimes it feels disingenuous what do y'all Really want from drake ??

People love to call Drake soft or sensitive but this freestyle further proves that Drake is the demonic, goon employing thug, that Tupac and Biggie were thought to be. If the ominous drill beat didn't spell it out, Drake is one of the realest threats in the rap game and can get anyone killed if he wishes.

Kanye said it himself about Drake in 2018, "He running around like he pac", that's because Drake is the new modern day Pac. He's really running around with a strap on his hip, has killer goons on command, is affiliated with the mafia, and has bodyguards that look like they eat nails in a bowl of blood. He had Kanye fearing for his dear life and kids lives in 2018 when the beef was popping.

Drake really is the demon of Calabasas and Hollywood. We're looking at a real life Godfather Michael Corleone type figure, a gang affiliated Michael Jackson tier pop-star but on a much grander scale than MJ ever was. There's so many stories of Drake's getting rude yutes clapped up or performing mob boss gestures like throat slices, clapping his hands, etc. Drake dines at mafia style restaurants like The Nice Guy/Delilah in Hollywod.

And he has enough power to bully superstar celebrities like Tory and Kanye around and make them think twice about their actions. This nigga Don Corleone runs every corner and inch of Canada and claimed it as his own. For the first time in forever we're looking at an invincible GOAT who really lives the stories.

OP invalidated his own thread complaining about how every song is the same then admitting Drake uses different flows for different beats

They just be making s*** up

  • Nov 21, 2023

Drake is spitting on his trap beats its just melodic and fast too so the entredes are a little harder for the ones with brainworms to understand

But then they understand he’s spittin fire for when its slowed down and simplified for them to understand it at a pace thats comfortable for em so then they think he’s tryin too hard

But really its always just been fire
