These are the people that award Pulitzers. If I told you that was the secret committee deciding all of the Grammy nominations you'd probably believe it because it's the exact demographics everyone complains about controlling the Grammy's--old, out of touch, and predominantly white. Why the hell should these people's opinion of hip-hop hold any weight at all. At least Grammys are voted on by thousands of peers within the music industry and not NYU history professors.

sales are irrelevant and the only reason anybody started to give a s*** about sales is because of Drake being the first significant rapper in history to routinely get mediocre reviews and reception from music fans despite selling big numbers.
Giving an award for sales is laughable and furthers the sales= quality argument in a very harmful way.
