I’ve noticed that more and more songs are getting distinguished as being with an artist as opposed to featuring one, with some albums have a mix of songs with and featuring specific artists. Any industry savvy people here know the reasons for this?

  • Usually depends on the artists' uncle

(with artist) usually means they share the streams and the song is posted on the other artists page as well. so the monthly listeners merge

I’m assuming u get more ownership as a main artist

but the simple reason I usually see is that when you use With instead of Featuring it shows up on an artists page as their song instead of a feature giving it a lot more exposure on their page

    with: more a collaboration

ft: just a hook/verse/whatever. not directly involved

How it shows up on streaming.

“With” appears directly in both artists singles or album, tends to happen with big features or ones where they want the exposure for both fan bases.

Feat. Is just that, being a part of a song, may show up in a features section of an artists page but won’t get out anywhere else on streaming outside the person who got the features album.

So in general it’s an exposure deal to try and blast it to two fan bases

On Apple Music if it says with or feat it’s the same thing. Just a stylistic choice.

When it says (artist & artist) then both are listed as lead artist and the splits are different from a normal feature.

Spotify Monthly listeners include features regardless

But yes i think "with" will show on both artists Spotify page

with = both the artists are credited equally

Example, Moth To A Flame (with The Weeknd) is both a Weeknd song and a SHM song. It’ll show up on both artists page under singles or the album they’re on if that’s the case, which isn’t always (Paradise Again & Dawn FM)

This makes sense since CLB has every feat listed as "with". I know Drizzy splitting the bread equally.

Meanwhile Donda has 0 features even listed

    Thanks guys

The Post Malone album obviously triggered this thread but it always bugged me that on Alfredo Rick Ross isn’t listed as (feat. Rick Ross) on Scottie Beam title and on Bo Jackson Earl Sweatshirt is the only credited feature. Wanted to know the industry implications of this labeling and stuff
