It’s the fact that “normies” don’t respond well to these slogans. It’s reactionary and to them it attacks things that are, in their minds, so ingrained within the fabric of society that making proclamations talking of excising them entirely sounds too extreme.

You have to know your audience and meet them there, and if you’re trying to incur as much wide appeal as possible in order to secure the votes you need you gotta recognize the reality of whom you’re selling yourself to, you gotta adapt.

  • yes it was they literally removed paintings of women in world of warcraft replaced them with fruit bowls

  • woke war 1 my favorite chapter in history class

I see what you’re saying that stuff like “defund the police” doesn’t poll well, but that’s where educating folks comes in.

Yea it’s not going to happen overnight, but public sentiment can be changed. Taking AIPAC money used to be the most normal thing in the world two years ago and now it’s political suicide

Funny enough this same photo was used as an example in the og “woke 1” tweet

Pelosi and em were getting called out at the time for being performative tho

    https://twitter.com/jefferyadovejr/status/1270158267654815745

Getting called out by a republican & army vet Coon

I wish I could get called out by him too

I hate them coon ass republican niggas who dismiss all racism & bigotry in the world until they can use it to their political end

  • Woke 2 tonight

  • YoungNastyShawty

Woke 1 not being considered some s*** that was started by black people and was really only meant to be used by black people is funny. Woke just mean anything now

Maaan i hate what folks have done to my beloved 'woke'
I've heard audio recordings of niggas pre 1960s telling folks to 'stay woke' when travelling at night or in certain states because of risk of police brutality & white racist violence

& now these yakubs on the right use it as a fill-in for the hard ER & the ones in the middle/a bit left use it as a fill-in for 'being progressive'

Smh, they always messing with our words

  • Stay Woke

I haven't watched the clip just out of not wanting to cringe, but if I understand correctly, she's not wrong just saying It wrong.

America was slipping so far right, under the guise we were a haven for liberal democracy under the Obama admin. Trump just forced Amerikkka to take the mask off. in that unveiling of the mask, I think a lot of young people felt the need to move radically left, as the old guard democrats were simply not responding appropriately to how fast America was approach fascism.

a lot of people 10 years ago said that the trump vitriol was an overreaction, but here we are not realizing it wasn't. I think AOC could have said It better and defended her statements better. she said those things (and more importantly, got a lot of backing because of those statements) for a reason, not hysterics.

a lot of simply had to go so far left out of fear of losing our basic human rights against an incoming fascist government.

Missed this but Mamdani was asked this morning “Was Woke 1 crazy?”

He immediately throws defund the police/BLM under the bus unprompted. The interviewer never asked him about defund the police (unless it was clipped out)

It seems that DSA is making an active play to distance themselves from certain rhetoric, seemingly to make themselves more appealing to the american masses/folks who easily get thrown off by words like Communist/Marx/BLM, even the folks who like Affordable Care Act but hate ObamaCare

It does seem a bit heavy-handed & perhaps even mildly disingenuous but if it's a play at pushing the Democrats beyond Neoliberalism it's still a good thing i guess
Still felt kinda cringey seeing Al Sayed throw the concept of 'following an ideology' under the bus a little bit
I'd argue ideology feels more reliable than seeing people completely flip on certain political stances within 5 years
Then again... the politicians with decades of consistent good political views never seem to do well...

  • It objectively was, people will continue to look back on things like trans ideology, pronouns culture and ethnonarcissism like the absurd social contgions they are

I agree with your overall sentiment, but:

    1) it's harder to educate folks on slogans that sound bad on the surface level because the average American is stupid. They will fully believe that it means to abolish or give zero funding to the police.

    2) AIPAC is easier because there's nothing to misinterpret people were just unaware. Also I wouldn't say it's political suicide just yet

Oh I’m with you on the slogan critique. There should’ve been an effort to engineer a better one that highlighted how inflated police budgets ≠ public safety

also find it baffling people are handwringing about mild terminology from 5 years ago while ICE is actively abducting, killing and deporting US citizens off the streets n to their death, in many cases with the apathy or assistance of local police

if anything the slogan (take ur pick) is more apt now than it was when there were extrajudicial murders every week on top of it all

the majority of amerikans are just stupid, as was said itt.

It wasn’t slipping right, within our continental borders the country was breaking ever so slightly left. We stopped breathing so much lead and realized it would be okay if women had bank accounts. It was briefly encouraged to go out of your way to prioritize non-white job applicants. Psychiatrists mostly agreed being gay wasn’t actually a disease. Beating your children became passé. Young people born into that thought the world would continue moving that way, and as their opposition to the GWOT failed, the internet became normalized as a place to exist socially & effect change. They hoped for a better world through tech and scientific advancement as it evolved, joking about it vanquishing Focus On The Family Christian conservatism for good. Obama’s election bridges those two zones, appearing as a mandate for social democracy

like how could defund/abolish the police not make even more sense today with ICE's budget rocketing past $200 billion dollars as they kill and kidnap people in the street?
