americans need to stop thinking uk drill is in anyway connected to their sound

    a man said WONDAGURL

    you guys are so confused

why is it called uk drill if its not connected to american sounds....

are u telling me the influence of a beat like this is not clearly heard on all uk drill tracks

even one of the most renowned uk drill producers credits DJ L as the guy who birthed the sound

i dont think Wondagurl should get direct credit for shaping uk drill's sound but she was one of the first trap producers who really went crazy with the 808 slides and s***, which is obviously a big part of the sound these days

because chicago drill exists which also sounds nothing like uk drill lol its called uk drill so american morons like you dont get confused

that song sounds like a uk drill beat a 10 yr old would make

  • Jul 6, 2020

i won’t say she birthed it because she wasn’t the first actually program it in the popular sequence everybody is doing it in now. by that i mean making the 2nd snare of an 8 count coming in on the 8 instead of the 7.
but there are definitely huge elements of it that clearly come from her. imo she’s been a top 3 producer in rap since she came in as a teenager. nobody can really make drums knock the way she does and at this point she has so many different styles that you can clearly identify as her. i feel like she does the drill sound the best too, i think she should have executive produced pop’s album. she has the best ear out of everybody regardless of if she’s as famous/seasoned as 50 or in the business position of steven. she’s the one

obviously its somewhat dated because its f***ing 8 years old at this point

if you don't see how that beat and others by DJ L such as this

    or this

influenced uk drill then you're clearly just talking out of your ass

    even UK producers acknowledge it

  • Jul 6, 2020

and if we trace it even further back, it just comes to OG UK dubstep stuff, which incorporates a lot of sliding basslines and spacey sound

And it’s not just the 808 slides btw, it’s the percussion as well. The hi hat and perc patterns have Wondagurl written all over it

The percussion patterns all come straight out of Wiley and Dizzys grime/eskibeat stuff, not Wondagurl

    theDonandOnly

the same people with this take are the people who listen to one Wiley white label production from the early 2000s and go 'oh that's just alt hip hop not a new sound'

Real, I made a big thread about this back on KTT1. I need to make it on here again

Producers have always drawn inspiration for new sub-genres popularised by certain waves of previous new sub-genres. Undoubtedly US Drill was a divergence built on the Lex Luger wave of trap music, which in turn owes its birth to deviation on the Shawty Redd era trap, which in turn owes it birth to deviation on the DJ paul era 'dark' beats etc etc.

With UK Drill, you have the US drill influence and the influence of the evolution of UK grime sound and Dubstep. UK grime even had the church bell sounds on big tracks in 2007, way before US drill.

It's pretty obvious that the drum patterns used by AXL & 808 Melo originate from UK sounds as already pointed out at this thread.

axl literally credits DJ L, he's the one who started that snare bounce
