And yet he’s said multiple times that the Peacemaker finale is more important than anything for setting up Man of Tomorrow

Btw, nobody is saying you CAN’T watch individual projects and know what’s going on. Nobody is saying that whatsoever.

You’re too caught up in the idea that “connected” means “I have to watch everything or I’ll be confused”

    That’s not what it means

    Okay

I agree the later half of the dceu was self contained stories. But I think the misconception here is that self contained stories dont interact with the larger universe at all.

Thats just wrong and not how comic stories which these films are based off have ever worked. As long as the story is written in a way that can be followed without needing to know much bg of the larger universe then its a self contained story.

I think you’re overthinking on what I mean when I say the DCU is telling connected stories rather than self-contained ones

You really think theyre not gonna make the movie accessible for everyone despite the connection to peacemaker lol

This Peacemaker finale is gonna serve as a teaser for the fans and then theyll re explain everything in the actual movie its genuinely not that complicated of a situation but everyones being stupid about it

  • Sep 29, 2025
    TheFader

    That’s all I’m saying lmao

It sets it up but obviously they’re gonna do an exposition dump at the start of the film, every single comic book film ever has done that

You disagreed with me when I said this

  • Sep 29, 2025

This argument is dumb I’m moving on

Im not overthinking lol thats literally how it works in the comics and how Gunn wants it to be for the DCU.

Its a connected universe, the stories are still self contained.

You dont need to know the bg of CC to watch Superman or Peacemaker S2 just because Rick Flag is a character

The DCEU was self-contained. The DCU, so far, is not. But you can still jump in whenever and understand what’s happening because it’s comic book film s***, there’s gonna be exposition dumps in everything

Remember when they tried to tell us that the DCU was going to tell isolated stories that weren’t required viewing for the next thing

    https://twitter.com/discussingfilm/status/1972048776014811136

So what did you mean by this then? Nothing is required.

    It’s not though lmao

Self-contained would mean there are no intertwined characters, no films that set up an upcoming project, nothing that teases any kind of spin-off or overarching narrative

    AKA the DCEU post-Justice League

    there are no intertwined characters,

And like I told u before that is not how self contained works

    Birds of prey
    TSS
    Shazam 1 and 2
    Black Adam

All contained characters from different dceu titles btw.

By your logic, every cinematic universe is self-contained stories because there is no cinematic universe that has movies where you will be absolutely lost if you jump in at any point.

These are Hollywood blockbusters, everything is going to have an exposition dump at the start of the movie

    Not really

You wouldn't understand Infinity war or Endgame without knowing a lot of prior context (one of my friends saw IW with me without seeing any MCU film before and was completely lost)

Same goes for Justice League, The Last Jedi, I'd argue that Doctor Strange 2 and Captain America Brave New world are included

The universe just started. It’s gonna get to the point where homework is required let’s not kid ourselves. Gunn can claim whatever he wants but I wouldn’t put too much faith in his words, he’s already contradicted himself saying only major characters will get movies

That’s just not true. My girlfriend doesn’t watch any MCU films but she saw Infinity War & Endgame and was able to easily follow along

You can jump into any of those movies you named besides The Last Jedi (which is a sequel) and not be confused whatsoever

Like that’s all I’m saying man

I really don’t understand why these guys are so in denial about it

It’s a cinematic universe. It’s SUPPOSED to be connected and intertwined. That’s like… the entire point

Well different strokes i know people that were confused from jumping into all of these movies without prior context

Exactly. I don’t understand where all the denial is coming from. A cinematic universe being connected is not a bad thing

You said this. Which is why people respond to you saying that isn't true

But so far Creature Commandos has directly tied into Superman which directly set up Supergirl and tied into Peacemaker Season 2 which is directly setting up Man of Tomorrow and also a spinoff show Anyone still saying that the DCU is trying to tell small self-contained stories that don’t set up the next project is absolutely lying to themselves

We dont know what is exactly meant for MOT but nothing in the DCU so far hasn't been a self contained story

Yes but I never said we’ve reached the point where there will be confusion yet. It’s still extremely early.

Give it 7 years and the DCU will be looking a lot like the MCU
