It set him back careerwise tho. Regardless of how you might feel ab oi it it, it wasnt looked at as a successful follow up to Reasonable Doubt....and it honestly wasnt.
Jay tried to use the BIG formula....and he failed miserably.
the bad boy formula didn't work as planned but it's still a good album that features some of his best work (a million and one questions, imaginary player, lucky me, where i'm from, etc.)

I have an affinity for Double Up, but the tone was off for the entire project, even the songs I like.

I know you do and I do too. I've even made excuses for it and said he was going for a "minimalist approach" knowing damn well the beats were skeletal because the production budget was cut down to quarters
