Felt like panda was the final song to really get this treatment
I made a megamix of all those remixes, and it got copy right strikes on SoundCloud. This is why it's died. F*** all these sample laws
Nah beatbox had hella remixes
(oldhead post alert)
21 savage album had me in shambles ngl
There was some great beats on it, but it felt like 95% of the verses he wrote he didn't care about and this runs rampant throughout the industry
Problem being there is literally no competitive spirit rn, everybody getting their bag and calling it a day
I remember times when rappers got embarrassed for going soft on great beats cause half of DatPiff would jump on their s*** or someone would renegade them on a freestyle for a radio show
It was a win-win for the culture cause great beats didn't go to waste, artists that cared about rapping got exposure and established artists had to step their pen game up
Tldr: the culture needs a comp mixtape (preferably hosted by DJ Drama) with rappers caring about rap doing recent beats justice
I think copyright infringement lawsuits put a halt to all that, if a dude spit better than you on your own beat then its as easy as sending out a claim on youtube.
Back in the day 12” singles used to have the instrumental and the acapella so DJ’s & MC’s could both get busy
Nah beatbox had hella remixes
I somehow missed that too I'll have to look into those
No remixes no posse cuts s*** ain't right man.
Who would even be the line up for a new 1 Train type track

The fact that's so hard to answer is depressing, everyone either too distant sound wise or they already collabed and it was mid, kendrick needs to work with his influences tho

The future of rap is depressing
Until the music consumption is changed away from streaming.

How is it depressing? I think the future of rap is as bright as ever

Young generation of artists do not make great projects
another worst thing about rap: nobody beefs on record anymore! I dont care about goddamn twitter threads and IG lives, let me have tracks
that guy that sued mac miller for sampling him on a free mixtape honestly killed a lot of this s*** because it made sample clearance some grey area and now with everything being monetized even soundcloud it makes the legality difficult to navigate
I'm surprised somebody hasn't tried to revive the mixtape concept. So many guys out now grew up in peak mixtape years, would think it would be a good way to get some promo off nostalgia bait alone.
with a different beat/ slighty more upbeat and a great guest verse .
