Kinda unrelated but I’m reading Major Labels by Kelefah Sanneh right now and he talks about how the term “rockstar” has been almost completely divorced from actual rock music for decades now and is more a signifier of a lifestyle. It’s an interesting read, I would recommend it to everyone on this forum
Sounds interesting. Will keep it in my reading list. Is the book really pro-Industry like that?

No not at all, it’s a play on words about tribalistic fan groups and how they self-impose their titular “labels” in opposition to other genres. Not about like Columbia or RCA or anything haha
One of those contemporary jazz people who sells a million albums of Christmas music and tours House of Blues and NPR tiny desk. Gary Clarke Jr isn't getting into beefs and Twitter spats. Harry Connick Jr is the highest selling jazz artist. No drama
rock star, because rock fans actually respect and admire their legends
hip hop fans s*** on you for literally anything and everything

True but, at the same time, the older rappers are lowkey getting the last laugh.
Nas and Wu Tang sold out arenas. 50 sold out arenas. Em and Ye are still dominating streaming. MF Doom is getting tons of vinyl sales postmortem. Pac and Biggie are still charting on Billboard after being dead for close to 30 years.
Tik Tok has ironically made people appreciate past acts more even though you'll still encounter edgelords clowning "dusty" music or "oldheads."
what type of famous rap star?
street shade room famous or kit kat commercial in a bear suit famous?
rap star cuz you can get away with so much more performance wise. don't gotta worrya bout f***ing up. half these niggas got backing tracks hosting listening parties for big bucks

All the old rock bands/artists are still doing the same things the older rappers are doing and still dropping albums. Most of them still tour regularly and have been for a minute

That's true.
I was just saying that older rap legends are getting their flowers more and more these days.

I like Carti but some of the s*** he gets away with at his concerts would lead to a riot if he was a rockstar.
