Music manager Wendy Day says it costs $150,000 to break a rap artist. Others say the cost is even higher. There’s studio time, music videos, promotion, mixing and mastering, and touring. There’s also the opportunity cost of making music. Every second you spend writing and recording music, promoting music, and shooting music videos is a second you could be spending working.

The most famous example of the cost of pursuing music coincidentally involves Young Thug. After Lil Baby got out of prison, Lil Baby went right back to selling d****. Young Thug was such a believer in Lil Baby that Thug paid Baby to stay out of the streets and spend time in the studio so Baby wouldn’t go back to prison. This was not a small amount of money. Thug would ask Lil Baby how much Lil Baby expected to make in a day on the streets, and Baby would respond $7k or $10k, and Thug would pay Baby that much to go to the studio instead.

For someone from a different background, the person sponsoring your career might be your parents or rich uncle. For rappers, the sponsor is often the streets.

I work in a studio in what ig u could call the hood or the streets and yea easily 90% of the ppl who come in for sessions are using money they got from somewhere illegal. No more specifics but yeah its no surprise the streets and rap are so intertwined when one is so often a prerequisite for the other

Wow. I thought it was pretty vague. Houston is really in here. I met Lou not long before he died. I wasn't familiar with his music then

I got really into his music after he passed, and I genuinely used to think he would have been as big as Gunna or Lil Baby had he lived. Now, those two are way bigger than they were in 2018 - 2019, even 2020, so it's harder to say that. But I think Lou coulda been huge

The whole surprise point is crazy, like how are KTT all over thug and how amazing he is, and then act all surprise with them Rico charges and saying he deserve it. Like how are driving around loving the music that talks about it and then turn around and be like lock him up, s*** makes no sense

Same as the whole MAGA phase this site was on, on some weird s***. Like hip hop got a whole message and meaning behind it that y’all don’t even stand on, s*** makes no sense

Lol at accountability being MAGA s*** when all the people bruh killed or tried to kill were black

Even funnier no one would think twice about trying to even see if his charges were legit/bs if they didn’t like his little autotune and d*** songs lol

That’s literally we’re rap is from, that’s all there is too. It ain’t ever going to leave it behind. What needs to be done is improve these communities instead of blaming them for everything

The way this is worded you would never imagine it’s in response to a 25+ year old multi millionaire putting hits on people lol

I believe Thugger when he told me years before the law said anything that he wanted to kill YFN Lucci on his Instagram story lol

Why would Thug be murdering people himself. If you don’t see how he can use his resources and finances to contribute to someone being murdered u don’t have to quote me again lol

That’s just Instagram. Lucci still alive 🤷🏽‍♂️

Anybody that died was 2 gang members shooting at each other. Nothing to do with thug. Y’all want to hold thug accountable but not the people that pulled the triggers, that’s a grown man decision to make, can’t nobody make u kill someone

a ton of these street rappers owe money to some "big homie" or someone that put money up to help them pursue their careers. what i don't get is people still being involved in the streets and selling d**** and violent crimes 5 to 10 years after blowing up. idk why thug, baby, gunna, durk, or youngboy are involved in any street activity. jay z and 50 cent for example were far removed from it when they were years into their careers

Baby and gunna not involved in street activity like that.

Thug YB and Durk just have beef from the past that no matter how famous they get they can’t escape. Whole gangs want them dead and they just Gota live wit it long as they can. And it don’t help that their enemies also have millions too

I suppose the wire taps where he is again asking his people “why y’all ain’t shot em yet” is also “just wire taps” Lmao

Also saw somewhere that innocent bystanders were hit in the process of all these murders/shootouts namely a mother and a 14 year old, but I don’t have the specific article

Y’all are sad man. You like some cute little rap songs so Black Death is cool 😂. “Thug didn’t make them pull the trigger” Nigga if he paid them to do it he’s just as complicit 😂
