And it's not like people have nothing good to say about trap beats. I see people say DS2 has some of their favorite beats of all time. Keef has a great ear for beats that pushed the game forward. Travis does interesting s*** with trap instrumentation that sets him apart in the mainstream.

The labels and artist didn’t do it. Trap has never been recognized as an official genre by any label or music organization.

Lazy fans gentrified the word trap music. When it was invented trap music was music that raps about the trap and trapping. Never had anything to do with the production.

But it has been defined by a main sound that is copied over n over that people have picked up on, including artists n producers themselves. And its been marketed as such.

Its like when peoppe try to argue Pop isnt a genre, when it literally is and has a main specific style associated with it. Yes it mean POPular music, but it as a genre also has a main/major sound n structure associated with it. Same with "Trap" or "Trap-like". It's both.

There was a time 2-3 years ago when hating on trap wasn't cool, you were basically an oldhead if you did that. The sound is just played out and it's getting backlash like everything else. In a year or two people will be dunking on hyperpop, tread, all that s***. Street rap will be out and sunny pop rap will be back in or whatever. Everything goes in cycles.

If a style has a main & identifiable sound, that is literally a genre. A way to categorized, remember and organize the difference in music.
