It’s really not. Because most of it isn’t trap music. There are only a few real trap artist still making trap music. Very few. The fact that people call it all trap music is a problem itself.
Ok so now you just playing semantics
Also gucci n waka is huge everywhere bro
So is niggas like thug n yb
Only niggas not popping or underground is the outlier
yes, a lot of modern beats are generic and boring and make the rapper using them sound less interesting (youngboy, polo g, etc)
that isn't racist or weird and it doesn't mean all trap beats are ass or whatever. Idk why ppl cape so hard for these mid ass beats.

Gucci and Waka numbers say otherwise. They never had the numbers Tyler does rn.
YB isn’t a trap artist. And thug hasn’t made trap music since 2015. And even then he was barely a trap artist.
Once again the fact that we call popular hip hop music today trap is the whole problem.
Calling it all trap is a way to separate it and label it as low quality music.

Also you’re arguing a point I didn’t make. My statement was to OP who said “I won’t listen to maybe good rappers over generic trap beats” I never claimed white people didn’t listen to that type of music but clearly OP said he doesn’t.

And it's not like people have nothing good to say about trap beats. I see people say DS2 has some of their favorite beats of all time. Keef has a great ear for beats that pushed the game forward. Travis does interesting s*** with trap instrumentation that sets him apart in the mainstream.
Youngboy's beat selection is pretty stale though and saying that isn't racist, if anything listeners want to hear him at his best
it's crazy yall only act this way towards trap beats but not boom bap beats.

Trap is literally a sound now due to 2008 to 2012 style of production, blame it on the artists themselves and labels for doing that and marketing it that way
Waka and gucci had numbers in the early 2010s, and their shows and youtube views are even bigger
As much as yall tell people to get out the suburbs, you need to go look at them.
S*** is gentrified and homogenized now consumed in large quantities by people that will never know the actual life.

I mean I get why it gives off racist vibes to some but it’s a valid criticism

I agree with this

I would get it if people were saying they could only fw Youngboy over Radiohead and Aphex Twin samples nobody saying that though. These are still fundamentally black genres Tyler is working in.
I should’ve used urban. Tyler music caters to a certain fanbase and everyone knows that. Let’s not be surface level thinkers. Youngboy isn’t close to being a trap artist and he claims he raps over generic trap beats.
all of rap is ate up like that lol. have you not seen memes of white YB fans on the school bus throwing gang signs?

s*** so mainstream you had Gucci doing songs with Jake Paul lol

The labels and artist didn’t do it. Trap has never been recognized as an official genre by any label or music organization.
Lazy fans gentrified the word trap music. When it was invented trap music was music that raps about the trap and trapping. Never had anything to do with the production.
At what point is it just hip hop again or will we continue to discredit it and just say “oh that’s generic trap music”
Artist who never been in the trap and lived it can’t really make true trap music. But anyone can make hip hop which is what’s happening.

The way Future gets love on here is one of many examples that it's not just a widespread "we hate trap" thing

Yeah lmao, and i know the whole history of what trap actually means and its roots.
But it has been defined by a main sound that is copied over n over that people have picked up on, including artists n producers themselves. And its been marketed as such.
Its like when peoppe try to argue Pop isnt a genre, when it literally is and has a main specific style associated with it. Yes it mean POPular music, but it as a genre also has a main/major sound n structure associated with it. Same with "Trap" or "Trap-like". It's both.
Only time it gets ridiculous imo is when we had that short moment in mid 2010s where edm artists were calling their s*** "Trap" just leeching off the brand recognition & popularity, had nothing to do with nothing outside the name 💀

There was a time 2-3 years ago when hating on trap wasn't cool, you were basically an oldhead if you did that. The sound is just played out and it's getting backlash like everything else. In a year or two people will be dunking on hyperpop, tread, all that s***. Street rap will be out and sunny pop rap will be back in or whatever. Everything goes in cycles.
all of rap is ate up like that lol. have you not seen memes of white YB fans on the school bus throwing gang signs?
Once again was a response to OP who specifically said he won’t listen to rappers because they make a certain type of music.

definitions of words shift as the usage shifts
yeah trap originally referred to the lyrics but that's definitely not true anymore
holding on to some old definition is pointless and pretty stupid imo

Yeah this is my post above which also answers that:

If a style has a main & identifiable sound, that is literally a genre. A way to categorized, remember and organize the difference in music.

yea that edm trap s*** is cringy and yea i feel like there's two eras of trap. That T.I. / Jeezy s*** had more bounce to it due to dudes like Toomp vs when everyone started jackin elements of Luger's sound heavy
