Guys I got it. They’re just giving them a lil taste to rope them in. Then they’ll tear it away.

Give them ori, starfield, hi fi rush, etc. But only these. If you wanna play the real next gen s*** buy an Xbox

Once Sony gaymers get to experience ori they’ll be fuming when the next one is back to Xbox exclusive. They’ll be buying Xbox consoles in droves to get their fix

love how most people on resetera are going “this is great! how are people annoyed by this??”

like people that have invested in Xbox hardware and software for the last 10+ years aren’t getting f***ed over by this when their entire digital library (and back compat access given how that works on Xbox) is likely to disappear in the somewhat near future, once the platform enters its death spiral

This is great for everyone BUT Xbox gamers

It’s a spit in the face to anyone who has a library / invested in buying games on Xbox

GamePass is not a problem, the problem is the Xbox brand since the Xbox One fiasco, they can't move hardware and now they're panicking because they don't want to do the work to catch up with hardware sales so that GamePass can be sustainable in the very long run. This is them saying "Our hardware doesn't move, and it doesn't make any money because we eat a loss" but it feels like they're giving up too soon instead of trying to right the ship like they said. Sony took an entire generation to turn the PS3 around.

Microsoft and Xbox is not hurting financially, this just seems like a bailout move to steer away from gaming console hardware to basically be like the Netflix of gaming and have their GamePass service everywhere.

I don’t think Game Pass is the problem bruv
It’s the fact that there’s f*** all to play on Game Pass.
I’m speaking from the perspective of casuals and someone who already owns a PlayStation.

    re: out of nowhere
    Idk man
Anyone keeping tabs on the gaming industry these last few weeks have heard the rumours of Xbox exclusives being ported over to the competition, but yeah a tentpole exclusive like Starfield on PlayStation does seem like a massive change in strategy; that I agree with.

When their 2023 major releases all flopped one after the other (critically and/or commercially), I knew something had to give..

And those desperate fire sales for Series X during the holidays? Yeah it seems like that didn’t even move the needle for the Xbox brand in general.

This “lack of worthy exclusives” problem at Xbox has been going on for far too long under Phil Spencer (since Crackdown 3 at least).

It’s a shame cus they know how to nail hardware.

I’m watching the latest State of Play, walking away unimpressed at nearly every game showing tbh..
Now with this seismic shift in strategy from Xbox, PlayStation doesn’t have to lift a finger to gain access to your wallet

Starfield sold really well, RedFall was a flop, and GamePass has brown in subscribers. I don’t think their AAA releases have flopped in 2023, they have a lot of momentum right now, the problem is they expected those AAA releases to move console units like hotcakes, and that’s not something that’s going to happen short term.

Xbox is in prime position right now to keep dropping exclusives, building customer faith, growing GamePass amongst the current community and eventually the console sales will come (once again, think Sony with PS3 except Sony was wayyyy more desperate and bleeding financially). There is no excuse for Xbox to be pulling this Hail Mary move, they’re not hurting financially, PlayStation is in a huge lul content wise, Palworld is a gaming phenomenon right now and they have a hefty lineup planned for this year. This just seems like a bird brained decision from someone at the top that wants to rush the whole idea of actual gaming consoles are gonna be a thing of the past.

Xbox has all these IPs, a great subscription service, unlimited resources and they’re basically saying “fuck it” instead of putting in the work for long term success. They’re basically waving the white flag as a hardware developer and using this to go completely subscription based/software. Bad day for the gaming community.
