Realistically, it was probably some board decision made by a bunch of 60+ year old white people that probably don't even know what the Start Button is on their PC, because they saw it as nothing more than an unnecessary expense.

The implications behind this is actually pretty sad. What was supposed to be a revered gamer ritual was just collectively left on read by all the big console makers.
