The fact that you can play those physical games on PS1, PS2, and PS3 today means they are preserved. SNES games aren't facing a preservation crisis yet aren't playable on any modern machine (outside of emulation, which is another factor to consider, of course). Is it better that they be playable everywhere? Sure, but that's not really the talking point.
if what you are saying is true then how is xbox not by and far the best at preservation if you can not only play them on a modern machine you have easier access to do all of that
PS1,2, 3 are only so durable and can break like any other console. If they break or need repairs what is preservation about having the disc and a console with a lifespan?

They are the best right now. The conversation is about where all of this is headed. Sony and MS are on the same page. They want to kill physical media. Idk how you flipped this into console war s*** lol.
They didn't pay that s*** anyway, just absurd that that's what they are asking for
it literally says expected partner ask
Its the estimate they create based upon the sales of previous games and company they are addressing. Based on Rocksteady track history as far back when these documents were written up its not that wild.

I'm confused by your post. I'm not saying Microsoft is paying that or that they set the price. I'm saying the fact that their likely accurate internal estimates estimated $250M for that game is insane. $250M for almost any game is nuts lol

I am not flipping it into console war. I am saying preservation includes backwards compatibility as I say in the first post you respond to. Which for some illogical reason you tell me backwards compatibility isn't preservation. Which is blatantly WRONG.

Backwards compatibility in an all digital future is not preservation lol

Look at Rocksteady sales and think to yourself why would WB want to launch on gamepass for rocksteady game that has now taken this f***ing long to drop and cost a lot of money
Backwards compatibility in an all digital future is not preservation lol
they are both leaning more digital but I honestly dont see either one going fully digital because all the disc gamers have would become useless. I have said this for many pages....

I guess we'll see but it's pretty obvious they don't give a f*** about what discs gamers own when digital continues to skew in the 75%+ range and continues to increase. As is Microsoft has policies where they don't even let you get physicals unless you meet a certain quota, resulting in smaller games not even getting prints on the Xbox version. Sony is pushing it too with the "attachable disc drive" bullshit and the digital only PS5. Only a matter of time imo
Again if you go FULLY DIGITAL ONLY many stores aren't carrying your s***.
Stadia tried giving that s*** away for FREE 99
Yes xbox has more pull and play anywhere but not even the option to buy a physical cuts out so much big box, gift sales and so much more. Where I am genuinely saying it would be immensely stupid of them to not even have the option. These documents are old. S*** changes all the time its possible they are following this exact console plan to a tee still but if you read other parts of the documents they have already changed quite a bit.

Well yeah because disc are expensive to print to sit on store shelves. Even the shelf space itself cost money . Attachable disc drive is an inevitability for both. Its not the greatest situation but with the cost of making a game going up and companies closing no part of it is shocking 20 years later. Anyone shocked by this or pining for the old times of having every game on disc, trading games in, borrowing friends games cant be shocked that with the cost of making games skyrocketing where we are now

I'm not convinced brick and mortar/online stores would stop selling video game consoles just because they were all digital. It's still one of the more expensive items in their store that they get cut from, just like any other item they sell that doesn't necessitate additional purchases. As is brick and mortar carries more Series S than X. Microsoft and Sony stand to gain a f***ton more from going all digital than any potential loss from this (which I'm not even convinced would occur in any significant capacity). They take 30% off any sale on their storefront lol
gamers are the worst consumer base lol they rlly will buy whatever

kinda on topic / off topic
the leaks showed xbox one market share in the UK / other europe / asian regions were so low (sub 10%) retailers were threatening to take them off the shelves.
this is no longer the case however phil said these numbers are now above 20% in most markets

Microsoft acts like UK/Europe barely exist advertising wise so not surprised. That s*** is a Sony stronghold over there

or they could just put it in the console like a regular video game console

Its a way to cut down costs as 90% of xbox gamers dont use it, and 87% of sony gamers dont use it.
Sell the disk drive seperately. Have the console be digital only to cut costs (and lets be real also encourage more use of their digital store so they get more money).
78% of switch owners dont use carts either (i see nintendo always keeping it for the future as carts are super low profile on the system, think space a disk drive takes vs a cart slot)
I personally think the disk should always be there but thinking from a business perspective. It makes 100% sense and id push for it if i was a suit
Just talking lol,I know SEGA is doing fine,it'll just be interesting to see them with more resources. But yeah,MS wanting to buy almost every company and put all of gaming under "Xbox" is cancer
They'd be dead in Japan if a move was ever made like this and for most of their IP that's their main market. Nobody gonna buy an Xbox for SEGA over there so they'd be cooked lol
