finished yakuza 3 today, it's my least favorite so far but it's not bad by any means. i enjoyed the more straight forward, simple story but the gameplay hasn't aged the best. i know it's a bit unfair to compare 3 to kiwami 1 and 2 cause those are full on remakes and 0 is from 2015 while 3 is from 2009 but it's hard not to. my main problem was the combat, specifically the bosses. all the bosses had unlimited block and you might get 1 or 2 hits in but basically the entire combo would be blocked and you don't really have any way of getting around their block besides dodging but even then you only get a few hits in before they insta turn and block again. weapons didn't even seem to make that much of difference. so the boss fights ended up feeling pretty dragged out to me which was disappointing.
my other problem was the okinawa sections. i know this part of Kiryu's life is supposed to be slower and calm but the pacing of the game completely fell off a cliff in these sections. i felt like most of the missions where run here, then run back, then run there again, and finally run back one more time. just not great gameplay wise.
i'd say the story was enjoyable but def the weakest of the 4 that i've played, but that's mainly because it's just shorter and not as complex, and honestly, it's still better than most video game stories now. voice acting and music was A1 as always especially during Rikiya's death scene and the cast of new characters were all good too.
it was pretty obvious that Mine was the traitor so it wasn't a big twist but i liked him as a villain.
i did think that joji being kazama's bother was pretty cheesy but it is what it is.
i didn't really bother with too much of the side content this time around either. overall a solid game and fun experience but i'm excited to move onto 4.
it only gets worse until 6 which is good and 7 is top level but yea 4 and 5 are a bit rough and paced terribly. there are some good moments tho
Ishin! so soon
So is Ishin gonna be a legit good game or is it gonna feel like a lesser entry of the series since it is sort of a spin off instead of a core entry?

I think it's similar to 0, so a real game while being a spinoff
This why I didn't buy lost judgement

It’s a good game, lot of people even say it’s the best or close to best RGG game from what I’ve read. it got pretty great scores when it initially réalèses from famitsu who were known to be pretty tough on scoring

I enjoyed it and my Japanese isn't good really. At the lease it will be good/solid. I expect it to be even better with a clearer understanding of the story.

howlongtobeat.com, which has always been pretty accurate when it comes to these games from my experience, says the main story is around 22 hours and main + side quests is 48 hours. that doesn't even take into account all the mini games and exploring you'll probably do. to 100% the game it says 114 hours. so content wise it sounds just on par with a mainline entry and the studio consistently puts out a high quality product, so i don't think it will feel like a lesser product.
Yo they’re adding Nyanners as a guest card character.
It’s hilarious seeing the backlash towards this too, people unironically like “Keep your anime girl/Vtubers out of my f***ing YAKUZA game!”.
The (JAPANESE) series where the primary protagonist literally has a mini game involving thirsting after cam girls.
Also, Yakuza 8 is 100% gonna have a vtuber side story.
Lmao easily one of the funniest niggas in video games

There's a whole vtuber hate wave that's all it is
It's just some silly card powerup ability with her name on it who cares lmao, nerds act like such weirdos bout the most random things

I even see it in some “progressive” circles, even though a big part of the reason why it’s a thing is to protect the identity of girls on the internet, which you’d think people would be more supportive of

Yea people are weird, just hating to hate instead of doing something better with their time.
Don't even have to use any of the cards in Ishin either
How long is the demo?
It's just combat, it's 22 areas/stages you can select and just fight
The UI design is kinda mid. idk why the health bar is red instead of green and the heat gauge is a tiny circle lol
Pretty bad stuttering on PC apparently, fine on my PS5

I was just talking to my friend the other day about how f***ing hilarious it would be if a side mission on 8 was just ichiban discovering vtubers

Nah.
Imagine an entire side quest chain where Ichiban has to fill in for a VTuber.
