Where the F*** did i said that dummy
Also Channel Orange def is which is what most people know him by so no s*** people think of him as RnB
Reread my statement tho i never gave an opinion on what i think he is calm down
that's the point. how is it doing the most if it's facts
Artists need to stop being pretentious sometimes
I get what he’s saying but his “home genre” is R&B but he’s influenced by artists not in R&B. And that’s awesome
Kanye’s “home genre” is rap but man he has some pop tracks or rock tracks or R&B tracks sometimes and that’s awesome
I get what he’s saying and I agree but to be a “rapper” or “R&B singer” isn’t a bad thing
that only happens because rappers try to gatekeep against anyone that isn’t “real rap” with double entendres in their bars
Thats old niggas who dont matter anyways lol & nah it was def a trend during Uzi Yachty era with a few going against it like Playboi Carti.
Buy yeah i get that, still wrong tho imo n comes off as coping.
Absolutely right. I am definitely guilty of placing him into that box.
Side note. There is nothing wrong with just being and R and B artist and nothing more.
good for him or whatever i guess
i hate it when all black singers are categorized into r&b/rap when they dont make that kind of music. but at the same time it seems like some of these rappers and singers try really hard to seem different and special by saying "i do more than that!" as if its bad to be an r&b singer or a rapper.
it bothers me the same way "im not a rapper i'm a rockstar" does. like i get it but :/
right. i feel like artists are those type of niggas anyway that's why they're artists. so if you constantly restrict them (and sometimes use it as a pejorative) they gon try and switch it on you
but defo feel what you're saying. it's a self serving cycle
that's the point. how is it doing the most if it's facts
Because he still s***ting or acting like an artform is beneath his "creative-ness", again did you not read what i said or my allegory to the lil Rap wave stint of saying "im not a rapper im an artist" its disrespectful especially from someone that was obvious RnB at one point n benefited
That kind of talk is eye rolling n demeaning af lol to me, you can say what you say without making less of an artform.
Pigeonholing yourself into a genre was always dumb. Every great band/musician transcends that s***.
he tryna says blonde is alternative pop・avant-garde soul・psychedelic pop ??
nah its rnb
it can be all of those things why it just gotta be one
good for him or whatever i guess

Exactly lol.
You can say youre "different" without s***ting on other artists/genres/audiences n without acting "above it all" lol. Especially someone that has benefited from that genre they are now trying to distance from such as Frank or those kind of Rappers.
Pretentious asl imo n its always those that say "genres dont matter" that are also trying hard to be their own. Obviously it matters 2 u to some degree to care that hard.
I have never heard RnB as an insult
Rap yeah but thats by people outside the genre who really dont matter
But yeah i get what youre saying
Post above you encapsulates what I’m saying perfectly
Bros world probably came tumbling down once bro said "nah i think Novacane closer to RnB than anything else i mean yeah its kinda different but not that different"
Whatever genre Frank wants to be in or dont hopefully at least an album comes out

nah that's you putting that on him. someone with those intentions wouldn't have credited his songwriting from hip hop. he's just speaking the real
Post above you encapsulates what I’m saying perfectly
Yeah I get it to a degree, I just dont like the "above it" attitude of it all especially from artists that have benefitted from the exact thing theyre now s***ting on or changing tune about.
My issue isnt with the idea but moreso the attitude.

Calling his “home genre” R&B is exactly what he doesn’t want to be called
Genre is a dated concept
Not really when most people are still creating music in traditional ways n templates & its still the number 1 way to get music discovered & understood by the general public.
Most people arent making that crazy or that transcendental things as of now & the mainstream public doesnt care.
Genre is a dated concept
not sure i agree with this though. why'd you think this?

The advent of the internet means that contemporary music pulls from a LOT of styles at once. Genre’s lost its role as a way to classify and stratify music around tropes, styles, and preconceptions. It’s use is a descriptor at best, and thus it can’t even be called genre anymore

I definitely don’t agree on any of these points
Exactly lol.

it's always felt a little "new black" to me but i won't get too much into that lol
