And what's hilarious is that you can't even use the whole "ya'll probably don't go to parties" schtick anymore cause modern rap doesn't even get played at clubs like that except for female rap.
Female rap or Thot rap is keeping the modern club scene alive.
Meanwhile, there's no shortage of classic club or party songs from the 90's, 00's, and early-mid 2010's. Even young people today would rather dance to Wobble or Always On Time than a run of the mill modern Trap/Drill/Rage song today.
I remember watching a club scene in Atlanta where Lil Baby was playing and the crowd was so dead, it looked more like a lounge than a club lmao.
I bet if "Get Low", "Yeah", or "Move B****" started playing, the whole mood would change though.
i'm a couple years removed from college and i'll say this, when i was in high school my classmates weren't listening to older artists as much as my high school aged cousins and their classmates are now. like in 2015 people weren't listening to stuff from like 08 or whatever that much but my cousins friends still are saying i'm lucky to have been in college to experience 2016 as it happened being that age. there's a lot of amazing music coming out but the scene just isn't the same
i agree completely that overall hip hop is not hitting like it used to
that being said i fw nettspend
So it isn’t just us young millennials/gen z customers who graduated around 2016 who miss that s*** dearly lol
That was a TIME
yeah bro like maybe it's just anecdotal because it's my younger cousin and her friends but she posted some graphic of "my favorite albums" or something and of the 10 albums i wanna say 7 of them were from 2015-2018 which she was like 10 for and according to her most her friends are like that
Shadow wizard money gang
we love casting spells

Exactly.
Drake, Cole, and Kendrick are getting up there in age and still have a major hand in the culture.
Even Travis and Tyler are over 30 and blew up in the 2010's and have a major hand in the culture.
Kanye and Eminem are still breaking streaming records too despite the former being a nutcase and the latter being 51 and shatted on by many modern rap fans.
And Nikki Minaj who's over 40 is outselling every female rapper rn.
And Billboard is even touting Killer Mike's album as AOTY and he's almost 50.
But nah.....we all just dusty and stuck in the past. Clearly, the rest of the world recognizes that mainstream rap is in a new Golden Age that's resonating with the masses and it's us "dustheads" who are out of touch lmao.
I will say there's genuinely some younger/newer talent that need a better spotlight on them. Like a lot lol, and I don't mean "new gen" rage stuff or pain trap lol. Like people who can spit and energize the listener and bring something even incrementally new to the table
Flo Milli for example. She's not reinventing the wheel at all, but if Nicki can do 250k+ first week still this woman should be going Gold in her sleep lol. She's younger, great at rapping, and way better at making albums versus Nicki at this moment. Same with Tia Corine. And both of them are also unique and refined enough to pay attention to and to distinguish themselves from the existing market of rappers in their lanes.
But yeah this is spot on
i agree completely that overall hip hop is not hitting like it used to

i fw a lot of new artists and think there's actually a ton of great new music coming out it's just not the same
Ok f*** it ill just say it. This freakin opi00m s*** is gettin outta hand please for the love of god. I need a f***in time machine to bring my ass back to 2011
I see this phrase constantly used as some type of jab or low-efforted comeback whenever users don't reply positively to a post about a middle schooler's rap career pushing lean or a drill rapper just copying the plot from SAW blowing his throat out yelling in the mic.
And I just want yall to understand as a 29 year old that I speak for us when we say
!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ram7AKbtkGE"you're growing out of touch"
Cool! There's nothing to be in touch with. Judging by the charts and the lack of #1s the rest of the world is also finding nothing to touch within this rap s*** lol.
Man all the new niggas are full of anxiety and percs why tf would I wanna be in touch with that? Parties dont even be the same now "scaring the hoes" has become a real thing NOBODY talks to each other
I also find it funny it's only a...certain type of young rappers yall bring up when it comes to "pushing new artists" because, it was crickets when niggas was bringing up niggas like cisco swank and ghais guevara on here.
Just saying when yall (and it be mainly niggas that are...literally in they mid 20s or even late 20s saying this so yall really projecting) say this, it's not the ace in the hole that y'all think it is 'nahmean?
Whole post is real af
Ok f*** it ill just say it. This freakin opi00m s*** is gettin outta hand please for the love of god. I need a f***in time machine to bring my ass back to 2011
Everyone on Opium besides Carti sucks lol
Carti is also overrated at this point but is genuinely dope
i think u can like old hip hop AND new hip hop
exactly, i think the best rap album of all time is reasonable doubt which is older than me and i'm listening to muddy waters by redman rn. this morning i was listening to ryan trey who's a new r&b guy
i fw a lot of new artists and think there's actually a ton of great new music coming out it's just not the same
yea the scene aint like it was like u said, these kids dont got nothing like early TDE or mac miller when he was in his bag, no liveloveasap or even a 6kiss. i fw the new artists because i think they have a couple tracks but im not gonna listen to their s*** all day or like the whole album even when it drops. its just the way we consume music has changed, its less about artists more about individual songs
I do think trap has ended up being a net-negative for hip hop, which is sad because I feel the opposite about the genres that inspired its creation. I also wouldn't say trap was a net-negative for hip hop until the Soundcloud era blew up.
Everyone on Opium besides Carti sucks lol
Carti is also overrated at this point but is genuinely dope
old lone and current ken both have classics
i honestly think ive listened to lone more than carti thru my lifetime and imma big fan of both

opium is great it's the people that try to sound like them that end up sounding like s***

You're right.
There's plenty of great acts today.
Hell, I think Carti, Ken Carson, and Yeat make great sounding music even though their lyrics are mid af. And I'm fine with rap that simply sounds great without the lyricism.
There's always room for that.
I'm just comparing the scenes as a whole collectively. You know modern mainstream rap ain't in good shape when Billboard is hinting at giving Killer Mike AOTY lmao.
Lonely might have a classic mixtape lol, and def has a classic EP.
Ken has 0 classics
a great chaos AOTY
a great chaos AOTY
yeah if you've only listened to one album this year
facts thats why i listen to real hip hop like macklemore and MGK none of that mumble CRAP
