    Exactly.

Drake, Cole, and Kendrick are getting up there in age and still have a major hand in the culture.

Even Travis and Tyler are over 30 and blew up in the 2010's and have a major hand in the culture.

Kanye and Eminem are still breaking streaming records too despite the former being a nutcase and the latter being 51 and shatted on by many modern rap fans.

And Nikki Minaj who's over 40 is outselling every female rapper rn.

And Billboard is even touting Killer Mike's album as AOTY and he's almost 50.

But nah.....we all just dusty and stuck in the past. Clearly, the rest of the world recognizes that mainstream rap is in a new Golden Age that's resonating with the masses and it's us "dustheads" who are out of touch lmao.

This has nothing to do with music and everything to do with death of monoculture and the rise of streaming

But ppl on here will eat this up anyway

And what's hilarious is that you can't even use the whole "ya'll probably don't go to parties" schtick anymore cause modern rap doesn't even get played at clubs like that except for female rap.

Female rap or Thot rap is keeping the modern club scene alive.

Meanwhile, there's no shortage of classic club or party songs from the 90's, 00's, and early-mid 2010's. Even young people today would rather dance to Wobble or Always On Time than a run of the mill modern Trap/Drill/Rage song today.

I remember watching a club scene in Atlanta where Lil Baby was playing and the crowd was so dead, it looked more like a lounge than a club lmao.

I bet if "Get Low", "Yeah", or "Move B****" started playing, the whole mood would change though.

    This applies to every genre

Name a genre besides pop (which is solely based on current relevance in the first place) where the main songs played at parties aren’t decades old

There really is so much good s*** coming out from new artists but yall would rather talk about the Big 3 and other gossip/pop culture s***.

Y’all only like the rappers/artists you grew up with

I see this phrase constantly used as some type of jab or low-efforted comeback whenever users don't reply positively to a post about a middle schooler's rap career pushing lean or a drill rapper just copying the plot from SAW blowing his throat out yelling in the mic.

And I just want yall to understand as a 29 year old that I speak for us when we say

    "you're growing out of touch"

Cool! There's nothing to be in touch with. Judging by the charts and the lack of #1s the rest of the world is also finding nothing to touch within this rap s*** lol.

Man all the new niggas are full of anxiety and percs why tf would I wanna be in touch with that? Parties dont even be the same now "scaring the hoes" has become a real thing NOBODY talks to each other

I also find it funny it's only a...certain type of young rappers yall bring up when it comes to "pushing new artists" because, it was crickets when niggas was bringing up niggas like cisco swank and ghais guevara on here.

Just saying when yall (and it be mainly niggas that are...literally in they mid 20s or even late 20s saying this so yall really projecting) say this, it's not the ace in the hole that y'all think it is 'nahmean?

Not that that scene doesn’t have some bullshit of its own, but go to any decent club or rave in a major city and you’re hearing modern jungle, d&b, house, hell even the more generic Drumcode-style techno is at least alive and constantly cranking out new s***

(Broadly though at less genre-specific functions your point still stands)

not that what i say matters at all as just a listener but some of the drill music is just set up to get these dudes in trouble in the long run

Even with Thugger, he said some really specific s\*\*\* that was traceable to real events in songs, while I don't think lyrics should be allowed to be used in court, they have been in the past year against him

S*** is a quick payday for a short shelf life and then on to the next

Great for labels to grind out a quick buck out of these young kids though

    No.

I'm saying that the monoculture thing didn't stop him from resonating with My Turn.

I would never say Lil Baby was as good as rappers in the past lol. I was simply saying that the monoculture excuse didn't stop My Turn from having major success.

i'm a couple years removed from college and i'll say this, when i was in high school my classmates weren't listening to older artists as much as my high school aged cousins and their classmates are now. like in 2015 people weren't listening to stuff from like 08 or whatever that much but my cousins friends still are saying i'm lucky to have been in college to experience 2016 as it happened being that age. there's a lot of amazing music coming out but the scene just isn't the same

That has a lot to do with streaming and less to do with physical sales. The numbers are also skewed with these songs being in playlists and a lot of times one song can generate tons of sales.

Lil Baby isn’t listened to as much as you really think he is in terms of the world’s ears.

Hip Hop, and most music aside from pop actually, is very niche nowadays. You don’t need the whole world tuning in and agreeing on a star anymore. Cult fanbases make up a good portion of success
