it's less the lgbt community isn't a monolith, than it is specifically the trans community is not one. lgbt are nearly 10% of the u.s, so naturally there's going to be varying opinions
and not everyone will feel like they can even speak on it. because im bi doesn't mean i have as valuable of an opinion on this song as a transgender person
Is it really 10%? Thought it was like half that
well there’s multiple issues concerning the LGBTQ+ community in the song
you’re referring to misgendering throughout the song & deadnaming, but Kendrick’s use of the f slur has also been controversial
im sorry im not sure if you're saying that the community has multiple issues with the song or if the song is addressing multiple issues
im referring to the reception trans persons probably had towards the use of the f slur specifically for the purpose of the song
Straight Kendrick stans declared that he is allowed to say it due to the context.
I obviously disagree but it will be interesting to see his stance on it.
Everything can be said in context. Idk what tf u on lately
I hear you but I feel like the most offensive part of the song to people hasn’t been the misgendering or deadnaming bc ppl seem to get why he did that artistically.
it’s been just the repeated use of ‘fgt,’ which isn’t a trans-specific issue.
even as someone who defended the song early on, as time has passed, I get the criticism bc the ‘fgt’ part is just THERE every time you try to listen to the song
from my experience even as a black bisexual person the f slur, i think it was used towards the lgbt community at large so you're very right it isn't trans-specific, so i suppose the song is trying to be this call to transphobia in the black community specifically to hit the brakes. for kendrick, that's in places that are uncommon to the idea of gay-acceptance, even remotely.
yeah but it's kind of the point, right? the song sounds so innocent but it's taking this very loaded and hurtful word and making a commentary about the use of it
im not saying kendrick is a martyr for doing this, but he made a song addressing an issue in the black community that easily can go unappreciated by trans-advocate and generally homophobes, which is unfortunate
Kendrick doesn’t strike me as a artist that people will sing along to his words, maybe GKMC era but that’s it
Y'all really don't go to concerts/public events like that and it shows
That nigga whispering that song live would be hilarious to see
Mans gonna be like

that last part is so true.
seen Kendrick ‘fans’ dismiss the entire album bc of that one song. on both sides of the ‘issue.’
I'mma be there screaming it with a white girl saying nigga right beside me
