    He’s right

Just here to say Mos Def is a greater rapper than Drake could ever hope to be before his demented stans come in here to start narratives

    Bait is piping today, gj

Niggas really rewriting Weezy history itt, just to reinforce a point another person making. KTT really shameless sometimes.

it doesn’t matter what type of music wayne could ever make they’d never call him pop

and he never was either but still

I brought the archive up because those were sentiments from a local level.

Can't tell me nothing was made from the sentiment that he wasn't really hip hop and didn't have a street single.

Obviously the convo is bigger with drake, but the same idea still persist in that they were viewed as Pop because their image of being outsiders

Fair enough, I just tend to think the huge purist co sign that Ye had easily overshadowed any of that talk. The backpackers and people who generally have those convos mostly loved Ye because it wasn’t 50

Drake really been an overall net negative for rap and is leading the genre to its death

It’s true but then Wayne gets some blame too

From the beginning rap was fairly commercialized and they were trying to sell to as many people as possible.

I would say Drake is a student of the game and cares deeply about the culture

remember I said intent is a factor. The intent behind rap wasn’t the commercialization of it, it became commercial obviously but it was cultural based

There’s the five pillars & community was a huge part of it

That was the early bases of Hip Hop, it’s not just rapping. Although some of those activities aren’t seen anymore in the average rapper, some artist care the overall spirit more than others

And drake is probably all over those too. Idk I’ve heard fire and desire on radio but maybe it’s bigger where I’m from

The point that I’m making is that Mos was being a big hater and there’s maybe like 3 or 4 songs that would actually ever play in Target and they really don’t get played all that much there and Drake 100% is hip-hop whether he does s*** elsewhere or not.

As a big Drake fan, I get and agree with what he's saying
For the past few years it absolutely feels like it's all about the numbers and commercial viability to him and not any artistic merit, unfortunately
Wish it wasn't like that, but, IMO, it is
