because i think now the netflix audience is expecting a definitive doc about ye career lol

and i can feel a lot of people will be disappointed because this doc isn't going to give that

Also, remember in the OG thread when i said there is not footage from 2006-2016 and people thought I was lying? A lot of the footage was on a YouTube channel called Channel Zero I downloaded it all back in the day

ye is absolutely right in wanting to be in control of how his name and image is projected. Imagine a documentary being made on you and NOT wanting to make sure it told a factual narrative.

People in this thread are crazy, I guarantee if a documentary was made on them everyone would want to have final approval

He even promoted the doc 3 months ago on his own ig. The doc is probably finished for months and it's his own fault for wanting the final approval 2-3 works before it's officially coming out lmaooo

He shouldn't think that he can always get everything quickly days in advance just because he wants it. He should asked for the final approval 3 months ago already if he really cared about this in the first place anyway. Kanye is old enough to know this s*** isn't working like this in that industry. He can do that with his albums

Ye is one of those celebrities for whom media coverage has been very frustrating, and not in a positive/negative sense. Between the armchair psychiatric diagnosis, or the dramatization of his eccentric character, or the ethical framing of his political stance, it often feels holier-than-thou and condescending. So I understand Ye's point. And yes, it is possible that he overcorrects and ruins the external POV that is meant to be relatively limited and potentially flawed.

But even if the director is good on that front, if they're missing footage from 2007 to 2016 .. Why even bother? 07 to 16? This is the biggest and most marketed coverage about an artist of Ye's stature and they're missing THAT much? Imagine being a fan and wanting to tell people about your favorite artist, but not being able to show them anything from his most prolific decade. This is insane. They can advertise it as an early-era documentary, or they can redo/keep it.

It’s basically an early career doc that picks up later in life to see how far he actually went….they have always maintained this point

It was the initial press releases that gave fans the wrong impression.

This is not trying to walk through his career. This film is from their perspective and they weren’t around for the years that are missing so they don’t have footage

Is that the case? Because that Variety article someone shared mentions 2 decades minus 07-16 .. It also says that "His run-ins with Taylor Swift, Donald Trump and even a few glimpses of Kim Kardashian and Beyoncé are included too.". So Trump is in there, but not 808's to TLOP? That is unacceptable, literally just ammo for the Twitter warriors to get their anti-Ye viral tweets out.

There are millions of fans looking forward to this, there are media vultures and haters looking forward to use this to undermine him, and surely a few neutral boomers trying to see what the Ye phenomenon is about. I'd hate to have a project this big fail to convey what we all know of the man. But as movinq said, if he gave an early approval, that's on his dumb ass.

Hoop Dreams is the best possible comparison for what this might be (also one of the GOAT sports docs)….but instead of just following the early days grind they had the privilege of meeting the subject again years later in life while he’s still doing stuff like hosting a fashion show/album premier at MSG and running for president

Coodie and Chike are great guys and great filmmakers. They’re not out to get him they just painted what was accurate to their angle. It’s not their job to worry about the press
