First season is great, but the weakest, imo. It reached the full potential of Fuller's vision as it went along and became more of a dreamscape.

to your point, the first three-four episodes are like justified in that you need to get past the monster of the week episodes to get to the actual vision. Latter seasons don't have to entice you with that d*** and pony show and just get to the content.

Right. The story goes that he smuggled it onto the air by going monster of the week. Regardless, the first season is great.
