It’s like what happened after WLR but even more shamelessly derivative and widespread
I think it’s because while Carti is more of outlier, Yeat seems simpler
(He’s not but his image isn’t as esoteric / unique on the surface)
But listen to any project released in the past year by an artist with under 40k on instagram who’s been posted by Hyperpop Daily and you’ll hear a Yeat type beat
I think this speaks to how quickly people will follow a trend, especially rappers, if they think it’ll get them exposure or respect. But the second I hear a bell and an “EDM” synth on a song I lose a little interest
This is in no way a critique of Yeat himself I don’t think he intended to do this
But I mean s*** even Drake got on a BNYX beat, Lucki is rapping on Flansie production, Youngboy has collaborated with him and released a whole “rage” album
Artists who used to have an interesting sound completely switched and lost that once they heard Get Busy
But I mean s*** even Drake got on a BNYX beat, Lucki is rapping on Flansie production, Youngboy has collaborated with him and released a whole “rage” album
ur saying this is a bad thing?
ur saying this is a bad thing?
Not necessarily with those examples, was mostly just saying how widespread it is
seems like ur just mad that Yeat's producers are finding success
I literally said that this wasn’t anything bad on Yeat’s part in OP
Call me a fossil but I could never be a YEAT fan
Not necessarily with those examples, was mostly just saying how widespread it is
yeah, but is it a bad thing?
yeah, but is it a bad thing?
I think the homogenization of his sound within the rap scene is yes
I think the homogenization of his sound within the rap scene is yes
But just as much as it is when any sound gets watered down

so in plain english, u don't like that a lot of other people are taking inspiration from yeat
Yeat hate corny
Bro can you not read lmao I said twice now that this isn’t Yeat hate I never said anything bad about him or his music
so in plain english, u don't like that a lot of other people are taking inspiration from yeat
Not really no lmao
Not really no lmao
I don’t like that people are more interested in riding the coattails of a sound he’s already moved past instead of trying to make their own
Why wouldn’t they do that though, artists in that subset are subject to zero scrutiny for any creative decision they make
And their uptick in listeners is just as likely to be caused by a hot co-sign, or the wind, as any art they’ve made. It’s so fickle, why be anything but derivative if it gets you to a point of turning profit
