It’s like what happened after WLR but even more shamelessly derivative and widespread
I think it’s because while Carti is more of outlier, Yeat seems simpler
(He’s not but his image isn’t as esoteric / unique on the surface)

But listen to any project released in the past year by an artist with under 40k on instagram who’s been posted by Hyperpop Daily and you’ll hear a Yeat type beat

I think this speaks to how quickly people will follow a trend, especially rappers, if they think it’ll get them exposure or respect. But the second I hear a bell and an “EDM” synth on a song I lose a little interest

This is in no way a critique of Yeat himself I don’t think he intended to do this

I don’t like that people are more interested in riding the coattails of a sound he’s already moved past instead of trying to make their own

Why wouldn’t they do that though, artists in that subset are subject to zero scrutiny for any creative decision they make

And their uptick in listeners is just as likely to be caused by a hot co-sign, or the wind, as any art they’ve made. It’s so fickle, why be anything but derivative if it gets you to a point of turning profit
