great movie, im glad it went where it did and didnt end up being predictable drama slop. it was just predictable which is fine. music wasnt my favorite but it was effective, and that cinematography was incredible. now heres a director that shoots the s*** out of his movies not this pta f***ing bullshit where all movies look two tones down and boring as f***. the fact that the first line stav gives us 'i know what youre thinking, this f\*\*\*ing guy' is f\*\*\*ing hilarious
It’s tooo bad stav didn’t get Emma on his pod, would be so funny
Damn it’s so funny that they picked him of all people. Like, of all people and of all the roles this is his debut!
Honestly, how was the audience expecting this to go had she not been an alien? Would it have been a better movie had she just scooted the couch out of the way in enough time to escape? Embrace the absurdity and the message at the end— it’s the entire point.
Jesse and Emma masterclass.
It’s interested during the movie the orchestral swells I thought were fire. Interesting that someone in here was thinking about that too no shade if you didn’t like it. I want to rewatch.
Do yall think she would have taken Don up? I don’t think it would have been possible. A rewatch would allow me to really sink in and examine her emotional responses to them with knowledge of her actually being an alien.
the first clue about her to me was her anger asking about how many were Andromedians. Pairing that with what the audience assumes is another bullshitting escape minded distraction story works well to quell that recognition of her anger. I also think her inability to properly relate her 5:30 wish could be a slip up of her identity but at the same time it’s very reasonable for a leadership person not being able to articulate that

I kinda walked into it being like “oh she’ll end up being an alien!” but I totally agree that the way she delivers that “how many” line is the moment that you as the audience say “oh s\*\*\*”. It’s done so well

100% she would have. Rewatch is definitely needed.
between this, Poor Things, & The Curse, Emma Stone has cemented herself as an all timer actress for me. her and Yorgos are like peanut butter and jelly. this was a bizarre experience from beginning to end, with one of my favorite Jesse Plemons performances to date, and a loud bombastic score that kept me alert during my late night screening. the ending was also hilarious and quite shocking with the last few shots. the truth is out there đź‘˝
9/10
emma stone > daniel day lewis
I definitely would have preferred it. A. Because the sci-fi in Yorgos' last two movies has been corny and hard to buy into and B. Because the reveal pretty much nukes any point it was trying to make about conspiracy brain rot.
i mean they clearly didnt want to make any kind of point and if anything its a lure so that we thought its that kind of story. its a modern frame for an old uncovering tale
Yup, cuz you could immediately reason against her being an actual alien with the thought of her just being angry he killed all of those people for nothing. “How many were what you were looking for?”

I think the ending kinda negates the film from having any message at all though
One last thing, just like OBAA you get scenes where the director and writer know their actors will dominate. The table scene in totality and the interrogation scenes were written with that in mind.

the ending is open to multiple messages, the obvious nihilistic one is humanity is beyond saving and the world would be better off if we were erased but the bees returning at the end could signify the start of new life which can be seen as a hopeful ending instead
Thats when you knew the b\*\*\*\* wasn’t normal lmao. Any actual human would’ve gotten tf outtta there
crineee
me during the last like 5 min of the movie

we get it bro.. everyone is dead!
Good acting, directing and cinematography should be a bare minimum from an established ensemble anyway so that’s a given with this but the writing is where the magic lays. Even though the third act was really good, it definitely trumps on the themes and commentary of the second.
A personal pet peeve but when it’s just a character doing the most mundane s*** like walking but it’s backed by the most obnoxious orchestral chords, I have to just roll my eyes.
Also, that might be one of the worst alien/sci-fi design I can remember what the f\*\*\* lol
last part fr i was like wtf is this bs
had the twist spoiled before i watched it and was still lowkey unsure
my dawg was like
