I think when the climax happens, a good portion of the third act loses some momentum for me.
I'm watching it again tomorrow night to see if I feel the same exact way.
Thought this was painfully predictable and a lot of the themes are severely undercooked tbh
One of the worst Yorgos
Yup
I didn't feel too strongly about this one on first watch... cool movie, nothing incredible (like I'd hoped)...
Emma Stone kept me in this story. I need to watch it again. Idk.
I’m really conflicted on this
Directing, acting, cinematography, score was all phenomenal
I don’t know how I feel about the story, specifically because I feel like the twist severely undercuts the main conflict of the film, also I think the reveal was extremely obvious and predictable

Very different tone, but I think Take Shelter is an example of a film that pulled off the whole "is he mentally ill or a savior" storyline perfectly
I honestly thought she was leading them on the entire time towards the end but in fact they were right lmao
Even when she switched up at the end. I think they did a good job of making the predictable seem unpredictable in a way if that makes sense
If I had a nickel for every movie I’ve seen about a boy who gets molested and ends up believing in aliens , i'd have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice.

kinda where I’m at rn
Good acting, directing and cinematography should be a bare minimum from an established ensemble anyway so that’s a given with this but the writing is where the magic lays. Even though the third act was really good, it definitely trumps on the themes and commentary of the second.
A personal pet peeve but when it’s just a character doing the most mundane s*** like walking but it’s backed by the most obnoxious orchestral chords, I have to just roll my eyes.
Also, that might be one of the worst alien/sci-fi design I can remember what the f\*\*\* lol
Now that I'm thinking about it, this and Eddington are kind of cut from the same cloth

People seem to be gelling more with this though tbh.
Debating on if I should go with someone to see this or solo it. Is it intense/gory with some action or fairly slower paced?

kinda both? well i'll say it hits the ground running but then takes it's time at points

Eddington cleeeeears

just realized this was in my watchlist
gotta check that out
it was cool
not sure how i feel about the ending though
Yeah im wondering what it does to a lot of my fav elements. And how the movie exists now with that baked in. I loved the mind game between Emma and Jesse, with her adapting to his supposed delusions and knowing how to take control of the situation. That entire part of the movie now means something totally different and isn’t really anything that I initially liked anymore. I like it still but it’s not WHAT i liked. It’s an entire different movie now and im curious what it’s like now
But I do love the questions it opens up about
how we view Jessie now. His character was right, totally 100% vindicated, but being right didn’t mean s\*\*\* and didn’t help him at all. There’s no way people like him and his cuz enact change, s\*\*\*s rigged from the top down, even if you’re right

underrated af
true classic with the best Michael Shannon performance
Losing my mind at the idea of Yorgos being a huge cumtown fan.
I have to assume them both being Greek is the connection
had the twist spoiled before i watched it and was still lowkey unsure
👩🏻‍🦲
Not sure this version did anything better than the original for me, but I was specifically impressed how Yorgos managed the setting.
STGP’s hillside and shack are exchanged for a valley and run-down house. In both, the setting is prioritized and utilized so well. I’m glad Yorgos really nailed that aspect.
4/5 versus 5/5. Perhaps just my bias from the first experience, but I wonder what someone would think watching in opposite order.
