you liked poor things but hated the favourite?

when i finally watched the lobster after the hype job it got i thought i was missing something

watched it again and just realized it wasnt that good

killing of a sacred deer was laughably bad it makes my stomach turn thinking about how unlikeable everyone in that movie was. if the tortured family is gonna be insufferable why does the villain have to be the opposite of charisma too.

my least favorite revenge story ive ever seen. there was nothing salvageable i that one for me. at least the lobster was p good in the first act and had funny moments. sacred deer was just dumb to me. the demigod aspect of the villain didnt feel like the appropiate foil to the doctors dry hubris. i just could not feel for the doctor or martin. i couldnt feel the horror when everything felt so removed from reality, yet so f***ing grounded in it.

idk i tried to understand the greek mythology the movie was pulling from, but it didnt really give me any new perspective that would have allowed me to connect deeper with the characters or story itself. i feel like where's the tragedy, when you don't care about whose getting revenge.

the binding of myth and reality just wasnt as effective as critics made it out to be. it stumbled across this line, its elegance only in cinematography. everything else felt purposefully blunt, harsh, and flat.

Haven’t seen all of his films yet but from what I have seen I love Yorgos filmog. One of my favorite working directors
