i know media literact is at an all time low nor do i necessarily agree with kendricks thesis on mr. morale but its so obvious drake stans and himself have no idea what the album is even f***ing about

Out of curiosity how did you “understand” why he decided to work with Kodak.

Cause my understanding was that he believes in prison/criminal reform, and the idea that people can grow from past mistakes. Kodak did his time and has tried to stay out of trouble, and most importantly hasn’t been committed of any other sexual crimes since the rape case.

However he also s***ted on Baka who just like Kodak, went to jail for a sexual crime once, paid his dues, then has since not gotten caught up and has moved onto better things to public knowledge.

He backtracks on his messaging all the time and it’s just never questioned or he’s given the “well he’s human he ain’t perfect” card as if he shouldn’t be expected the bare minimum when he constantly uses social issues his profit and public image. Also he is also tearing someone down for not being perfect while also trying to say people shouldn’t expect him to be perfect lmao.

its so clear what the album is about when u think about kodak's placement on the album, the reoccurring motif of cycles of violence in his work

im convinced you guys failed hs english

you can argue the weakness of kendricks arguments, but to hear his work and assume he won't champion the humanity of flawed black men is so so so so so so incredibly silly

its this focus of the complexity of the human condition especially black masculinity, that not only underlines his discography but why hes so against the caricature drake plays. its a flattening of masculinity that is brand friendly AND insidious at its core.

im not saying kendrick is even on the lesser side of two evils. but i do think at least kendrick owns up to his own bullshit more than others and paints a complex portrait of humanity, akin to great american novelists.

I originally thought that too then realized maybe it’s a soul thing we make mistakes and some of us are slow learners but eventually we do better to actually be better. One the other hand some people do evil dumb things for their own reasons to fill a void they will never fill with money vices and what not .. I’ve seen horrible things done to people for the smallest of things Kodak didn’t sit well with me but also felt like Kodak doesnt know better compared to let’s say Baka … as far as we know publicly he stopped doing what he was up to but still hangs out and have tied to these people from what I’ve found which also doesn’t sit right with me. As far as dot being hypocritical I think we can all agree he can be as much as everyone could be. Growing up with dot he never seemed to like that Activist role we made him that but let’s not act like he didn’t benefit or indulged in it aswell . Mr Morale did finally dead the convo that he isn’t hiphop’s little savior altho I feel like he’s trying at least from what I see

Kodak also still associating with plenty of gang members and criminals too, so why that don’t matter for him lmao???

And the funny thing is Kodak even got called out by Latto early 2022 right around Mr Morale release for trying to demand her to have s***with him in order for her to get a feature. So even tho he ain’t been convinced of any heinous sexual crimes since he still been in some s*** and been accused for moving sus.

But I’m curious as to how yall think Kodak deep down can be a good person and worthy of another chance but for Baka it’s just not possible

ppl bring up the kodak thing like its a check mate as if kendrick had a lead single with the nigga for some sort of street cred

he's on the album to talk about the cycles of violence that people endure that end up causing them to perpetuate that same violence done upon/witnessed by them at young ages

you think hes on the record despite his violent behavior but its very much because of such violence and his honesty surrounding his behavior

having him on the record isnt an excuse as much as its an examination of how this violence begins.

whether or not you want to decide if its worth having a rapist on an album is up to you, but to diminish the value of these kind of nuanced conversations is shirt sighted. i'm sure the victims would say f*** that, and ofc thats their right.

but if we're going to begin to fix the prison industrial complex in america, the we must have tough conversations on where violence/ self hatred begins and how to finally end it. it doesnt happen by locking away people and turning our gaze away from the ugliest parts of ourselves/our community
