necromancerIt was instilled by Colonialist Europeans to control the populace, not the native traditions themselves. I would like to make that distinction because it tends to be defended by the post-colonial populace/diaspora of these regions like LATAM/Africa as something truly inherent to their cultures from the start, when it was never that.
For example, African-American Liberian settlers learned how to subjugate the native Africans in the area from the white chattel slavers whose methods were inflicted on them.

NujaCan’t imagine it. By 8th grade if a teacher even raised their voice at you they were catching hands. Nobody was afraid of juvie and the teachers knew better (plus not acceptable in the schools I went to)
This one guy I grew up with in 7th grade knocked the air out of one of my teachers got sent upstate for 30 days never heard that teacher yell again
