    art is not objective

and yes that means (unlike sports and history) who is and isn't "greatest" isn't objective either. not a complex point but it seems to have escaped you thus far.

What makes sports objective is the stats, right?

You think music doesn't have stats?

White america doesn’t dictate trends or the direction of the genre. Black kids from urban cities do. That’s why they are not the core base of hip hop

He was an amazing artist, no debate, but not all amazing artists are GOATs.

BTW Eminem also did most of those things but that's another topic entirely

What needs to be done to be in the goat conversation? Because Mac fits the criteria from multiple point of views. He was a pioneer for starters. He was one of the first artists to blow up in the golden era of internet rap taking off. He’s released nothing but consistent quality projects of all styles. Ofc that’s subjective but it’s subjective to say the same about literally anyone. Not only is Mac one of the best white rappers he’s also one of the most successful. Why can’t we consider him a GOAT?

    That's easy

If you're asking why he isn't the GOAT white rapper, then its because his main contender. Eminem, has accomplished all of those things you mentioned and more.

If you're asking why he's not in the unanimous GOAT convo, then it's because the main contenders Jay Z, Pac, Nas etc, (and even the bench comprising of Ye, Drake and Kenny) have accomplished all you mentioned and more

Ok? And Jay z compared lil Uzi to prince. No black person that grew up in a black neighborhood grew up hearing Eminem’s music. So how is he comparable to the names you listed when the core base of hh never rocked w him like that?

you’re desperately grasping at straws to try to discredit him and that tells me that it’s deeper than music

It’s always a moving of the goal post “Em isn’t up there with legends”, shows examples of legends themselves putting him on that level

“Nobody listens to Em anymore” shows numbers that easily disprove that

“Eminem is only still relevant cause he raps fast and white audiences eat it up” shows that most of his hits don’t have fast rapping

“Eminem is a gimmick and only gained notoriety through homophobia and misogyny” Shows all the hits and albums where those aren’t prevalent themes

“Eminem was never played in the hood”
Shows examples of countless hood rappers saying they were inspired by Em, or rappers that aren’t necessarily “street rappers” but grew up in the hood and testify that he was being played in the hood

It has to be personal, cause if it was just about music quality and who was consistently putting out as much good music as they did in their prime then people wouldn’t include Wayne, 50 Cent, Ice Cube, DMX, etc. in their top lists

You think music doesn't have stats?

first off sports isn't even that objective

and no music doesnt rlly have stats

in sports, stats do reflect quality

in music, sales don't, and honestly neither do critical awards

  • Oct 13, 2021

    Greatness can be objectively assessed.

That's why you'll laugh at me if I said Javelle McGee was the greatest basketball player of all time but you'd consider it if I said Lebron James, it's also why you'd laugh ifI said some random person was the greatest human who ever lived but you'd think about it if I said Alexander the Great or Jesus

Sports is not the same as art

Ofc sport has to do with preference too but it's way easier to accurately represent an athlete's performances by using statistics etc. than you can with music or film

Okay so he did one album as an alter ego but after that its mostly the same stuff, only difference is the later he got into his career the more out of touch he got. Weak production, cringey hooks, weird attempts at making pop rap... and the worst of all; he became a satire version of himself and every “fast rapping white dude” with Rap God
